Chelsea Summerhouses are known for their extensive range of traditional summerhouse designs, but they also offer a more contemporary mono pitched design called The Oxford. You can order The Oxford as a basic summerhouse building or turn it into a year-round garden room by choosing specification upgrades such as insulation, double glazing and electrics.
The Oxford comes in five standard sizes, the smallest being 2526mm x 2526mm and the largest being 3238mm x 3741mm. Each building has an overall height of 2264mm meaning they are Permitted Development friendly, and you can site the building close to boundaries of your garden.
You can choose the layout of the doors and windows, all of which are made from Cedar using mortise and tenon joints. You can choose to swap the half height windows for floor to ceiling windows which create a great connection between the room and the garden. As standard the doors and windows have single glazing, this is fine for a summerhouse, but for year round use you will want to upgrade this to double glazed units.
For year round use you will also want to choose the insulation package which takes the form of foil backed Celotex insulation in the floor, walls and roof. You will also want to incorporate electrics into the building to create a versatile room in the garden.
The exterior of The Oxford is finished in Cedar; this is a highly durable finish. Chelsea Summerhouses offer a wide palette of paint finishes you can choose from if a painted look is what you prefer.
Internally the floor is a tongue and groove softwood which can be stained to create a rich finish. The walls and ceiling are finished with an MDF panel. You can choose from a smooth finish or a tongue & groove effect. The interior is then painted to create a light and airy room.
Chelsea Summerhouses recommend a traditional concrete slab foundation for their rooms; they can organise this for you as part of the overall project.
