Several companies keep show sites: Green Retreats in Buckinghamshire and Twickenham, Warwick Buildings near Southam, Make Room Outside in Halifax, Booths Garden Studios in Corby, Custom Garden Rooms in Telford and Hemel Hempstead, Bridge Garden Rooms in Halifax, Modern Garden Rooms in Silsden and Cobham, and JML Garden Rooms in Perthshire. Many other companies can arrange a visit to a past customer's room.

Is there a garden room show in the UK?

There is no show just for garden rooms. Grand Designs Live, at ExCeL London in the spring and the NEC, Birmingham, in the autumn, and the Ideal Home Show at Olympia in April both have garden sections where garden room companies may exhibit. Check the exhibitor list before you go.

Do I need an appointment to visit a garden room show site?

It depends on the site. Green Retreats and the Make Room Outside show village are open without booking. JML, Booths and Custom Garden Rooms ask you to book, and Warwick Buildings and Bridge Garden Rooms take appointments on Saturdays. Check before you travel.

Can I visit a garden room a company has already built?

Usually, yes. Many companies without a show site will arrange for you to see a past customer's room, with the owner's agreement. It is also a chance to ask the owner how the project went.

What should I look for at a show site?

Compare the sizes with your own plans, check the ceiling height and the light, listen to how quiet the room is with the doors shut, look closely at the finish, and ask which of the features on show are standard and which are extras.

Can you buy an ex-display garden room?

Standing inside a finished garden room shows you the ceiling height, how much light the glazing lets in and how well it is put together, and it is the most direct way to compare companies. JML Garden Rooms · Perthshire: A showroom in a private garden near Auchterarder, with three of their models set out: the 13sqm Highlander, the 22sqm Extended Lowlander and a 4sqm office pod. Make Room Outside · West Yorkshire: A show village of nine furnished garden rooms at Halifax Show Village, Wakefield Road, Copley, Halifax HX3 0UA. The rooms are set up for different uses, including a gym, a home cinema and an annexe, so it is a useful visit if the use is still undecided. Warwick Buildings · Warwickshire: An indoor showroom and an outdoor show site of 21 buildings beside the canal at Long Itchington, a mile north of Southam on the A423: Nightingale Lane, Southam Road, Long Itchington CV47 9AT (CV47 9QZ for sat nav). The buildings cover their garden room and garden office ranges along with garages and workshops, so not every size is on show, but the construction and finishes are. Past customers

Seeing a room a company has already built

Most garden room companies don’t have a show site. Many will instead arrange a visit to a room they have built for a past customer, with the owner’s agreement, and there is often one within an hour or so of home.

It can be more useful than a showroom. You see a room that has been through a few winters, in a real garden, and you can ask the owner how the project went, from the survey to the day the electrics were connected. Booths Garden Studios match buyers with a nearby owner by postcode. Ask about it in your first conversation with any company you are considering.

Garden room shows

Shows put several companies in one hall, which makes it easier to compare build quality side by side, though the buildings on a stand are usually the smaller models.

Grand Designs Live has a gardens sector, and garden room companies have taken stands there in past years. It runs twice a year: at the NEC, Birmingham, in the autumn (the 2026 show was 2–4 October) and at ExCeL London in the spring. The next show is ExCeL London, 30 April to 3 May 2027.
The Ideal Home Show at Olympia, London, has a gardens section. The next show runs 2–11 April 2027.

Neither show publishes its full exhibitor list far in advance, so check which garden room companies are exhibiting before you buy a ticket.

On the day

What to look at when you visit

Go with your own plans in mind and use the visit to test them.

Size against your plans. Take the measurements of the room you have in mind and compare them with the buildings you are standing in. A room that looks generous on a drawing can feel different once a desk or sofa is in.
Ceiling height. Most garden rooms are kept to 2.5m overall so they can be built under Permitted Development near a boundary. See how much headroom that leaves inside the model you like.
Light and glazing. Notice how the glazing lights the room, where the glare falls and how much privacy the layout gives.
Warmth and sound. Shut the doors and listen. Ask for the U-values of the roof, walls and floor (lower is better), and how the room is heated.
The finish. Look at the corners of the cladding, the trims round the doors and windows, and the joins inside.
The base. Ask what the building sits on, and look at the step up at the door.
What is on show against what is quoted. Show buildings often carry upgrades. Ask which features are standard and which would be extras on your quote.
