The team behind the Rotunda Living CIC have been shortlisted for two of the Trinity Mirror Cheshire Business Awards 2013.
The awards will honour those individuals and teams who have created new businesses or expanded existing ones, those who have demonstrated the drive, foresight and courage to steer the most effective course through what has been for most stormy economic waters.
The Rotunda Living community interest company (specialising in small circular eco-buildings and garden rooms) is an ethically focused business and exists to support our British Woodlands and promote an ethical, local supply chain within the modular buildings industry.
Gemma Roe, Creator of Rotunda Living comments, ‘It is my belief that the natural environment is a great healer and is of much benefit to human well-being but we are becoming increasingly detached from it. There are many reasons why at Rotunda Living we choose only to build ‘in the round’ but the Roundhouse is the oldest form of architecture which dates back through our evolution. Many Environmental Psychologists have claimed that a curved or circular environment is beneficial for the human mind and is a very calming and therapeutic space, this is compared to the wellness and happiness of an animal in a zoo environment and the impact of creating natural outdoor environments as opposed to square concrete pens.
As a Social Enterprise, we intend to return 100% of our profits back into the business to enable us to secure woodlands/invest in a community centre or a rural retreat for NHS referral patients/disabled/disadvantaged groups to give them the opportunity enjoy nature and outdoor recreational activities which might not have been possible otherwise.’
