We are delighted to welcome My Pad Garden Studios to The Garden Room Guide. My Pad have used 20 years experience in the construction industry to develop a range of contemporary style garden studios.
The My Pad really is a ‘pad’ in the garden, a space for chilling out! The flat roofed My Pad in these photos features a glazed corner made up of outward opening French doors and floor to ceiling glazed panels. The black finish of the UPVC doors and fascia create a striking contrast to the Western Red Cedar cladding. We like the fact that My Pad have created a real indoor / outdoor living space by extending the decking at the front of the garden studio to the side and creating a seating area, meaning you not only can spend time in the garden studio but around it too.

The My Pad has a good specification with a nod to environmentally friendly methods of building, the garden studios are built on the popular Swift Plinth system which comprises of a number of concrete pads, each one carrying a load of 2.5 tonnes. Swift Plinths are an eco friendly form of foundation as they use 95% less concrete that the type of slab foundation which would otherwise be needed for a garden studio and is 100% recyclable at the end of its useful life. The Swift Plinth foundation allows for air flow under the garden studio reducing any risk of damp.
The framework of My Pad garden studios is built from Structural Insulated Panel’s (SIP’s) which provide the studio with excellent thermal properties which mean it is cost effective to heat and cool – less heating and cooling also uses less energy resources. SIP’s are easy to transport and quick to install meaning they require less embodied energy than other types of construction.
The roof is covered in EPDM rubber which has become popular in garden studio construction due to its lifespan of many decades, the fascia and soffits of the roof are finished in UPVC which has been chosen for its long life expectancy and low maintenance requirements. My Pad is able to supply the UPVC in several different colours to contrast or compliment the main house. The roof also incorporates a seamless aluminium guttering system – it’s amazing how much rain water runs off a garden studio so it’s a good idea to direct it to a water butt or soak away.
The exterior of the garden studio is clad in Western Red Cedar which has a long life expectancy and is maintenance free due to its natural resistance to decay. The doors and windows are UPVC with argon filled double glazed units which is another way of keeping the garden studio warm and thus requiring less energy to heat it. If UPVC is not to your taste My Pad offer customers the opportunity to specify aluminium or timber windows and doors.
Inside the My Pad is finished like a proper room with plasterboard and skim walls and ceiling, the floor has laminate flooring as standard but there are other options. The My Pad is fully wired electrically with lights and sockets – all finished in chrome and comes with a wall heater as standard; under floor heating is available on request.
Mr Pad’s take approximately 5 – 10 days to install on site and come with a 5 year structural guarantee as standard.
My Pad offer a free site survey and their payment terms are 30% deposit, 20% on commencement of works with the balance due on completion.
