More beauty therapists are choosing to see clients at home, and a garden room has become a popular way to do it. The treatment room gets its own entrance through the garden gate, so clients never come through the family space, and the working day stays at arm's length from home life.
This Leicestershire project is a great example of a therapy studio created in a garden room. Cabin Master built it as a single room of 5m x 2.8m (14sqm), and the owner uses it for three things: a waxing studio at one end, a smart office at the other, and space in between for the gym equipment they use.
A Studio, an Office and Room to Train
The treatment couch sits at the far end of the room, with space to move around it during treatments and towels and wax pots within easy reach. At the opposite end, a desk with a wall-mounted monitor takes the bookings and paperwork. A cross-trainer and a vibration plate sit between the two, where there is clear floor to use them.
At 2.8m deep, it's a long narrow room. Cabin Master size each building to the nearest 10mm and plan the layout with the client, so the building can be sized around how you work and the equipment you use.
A Glazed Corner Onto the Garden
The Cabin Master team also work with clients on where the doors and windows go, and here that has produced a glazed corner. Sliding doors fill much of the front wall and full-height glazing runs around onto the side wall to meet them, so the corner itself is glass.
An opening window has been built into that configuration, with a similar one further along the front wall. Both open for fresh air without the sliding doors having to be opened.
Light Grey Marley Board and Anthracite Frames
Outside, the building is clad in vertical Marley board in the light grey colourway, one of the cladding options Cabin Master offer alongside Redwood and Western Red Cedar. It is a fibre cement board rather than a timber one, so it holds its colour and asks for none of the maintenance that timber cladding can require. The anthracite grey uPVC doors and windows offer contrast against the lighter walls, with the same anthracite carried along the fascia.
Inside, the door and window frames are white to tone with the interior finishes. Running along the front elevation, the roof overhang features recessed downlights, a popular Cabin Master detail that washes light down the cladding after dark.
A Stylish Interior, Comfortable All Year Round
The owner chose a feature wall in Steam Engine Green with the remaining walls in Antique Cream, over a Dark Chestnut laminate floor. The green gives the room its character, the cream keeps the treatment end light, and together they read as a professional workspace.
Air conditioning has been fitted for year-round temperature control, and it is a good choice in a therapy space, where the room needs to be at the right temperature for clients undergoing treatments. Cabin Master garden rooms are insulated through floor, walls and roof and glazed with house-quality double glazing.
Manufactured at the Derbyshire factory and installed by Cabin Master's own team, the on-site phase of this project took just two days.
