Garden rooms make great spaces for entertaining friends and family. With thought at the design stage, you can create a place that lends itself to entertaining all year round. This Executive Garden Rooms project is a great example.
The L-shaped design incorporates both indoor and outdoor entertainment areas. The large set of bi-fold doors offers free movement between the two zones and the lovely garden beyond.
Sitting on a footprint of 5.5m x 4m, the main room is highly insulated for comfortable year-round use. The owners plan to use the canopy area at the front of the building for barbecuing.
Cedar and Cedral cladding mix
The exterior of the garden room has a contemporary aesthetic thanks to the mix of Western Red Cedar on the garden facing elevations and dark grey Cedral on the side and rear walls.
The two materials work well together aesthetically, the grey Cedral picking up the colour of the door frames and trims. The two materials are also long-lasting, low-maintenance choices.
To help preserve the lovely reddish brown colouring of the Western Red Cedar, Executive Garden Rooms have applied a UV-oil to each board. Without the oil, Cedar will start to weather to a silvery grey, which doesn't affect the durability of the timber but can make the building look aged. UV oil is easy to reapply every few years to keep the protection up.
Cedral is a cement fibre board that comes in a range of different colours. The colour is added during manufacturing, and painting is not required to maintain the colour.
The Cedar and grey Cedral combination is obviously popular with Executive Garden Rooms customers at the moment; we recently featured a garden office & entertainment space with this cladding mix and this self-contained living annexe.
Modern interior with great views of the garden
Like all Executive Garden Rooms, the interior has been plastered and decorated to create a modern, light-filled room. Enhancing the natural light levels in the room is a large skylight. Executive Garden Rooms use remote-controlled Velux windows fitted with a rain sensor to close automatically.
The Anthracite grey bi-fold doors create a great connection between indoor and outdoor spaces when closed, but especially when folded back. There is also a rectangular window high up on the left-hand wall.
The room is fully wired electrically with LED downlights in the ceiling, a plentiful supply of power sockets and a smoke alarm. Executive Garden Rooms make the final connection to the mains supply as part of their turnkey service.
Added an outside tap
As part of the project, Executive Garden Rooms added an outside tap to the exterior of the garden room. This bespoke feature will make it easier for their customers to water that end of the garden. Little personalised touches like this are good to see.
