Garden Room With Canopy and Hot Tub for Indoor-Outdoor Family Living

Garden Room With Canopy and Hot Tub for Indoor-Outdoor Family Living

Published: 20 June 2026
Reading Time: 3 minutes 10 seconds

This family had reached the point many homeowners arrive at: they had started to look at moving house. They liked a great deal about where they were, particularly the bedrooms and the location, but the downstairs living space no longer suited how the family had grown up, and one of the owners was now working from home part of the week. The more they looked, the harder it became to find a property that offered everything they already had, plus everything they wanted.

It is a pattern Cosy Garden Rooms see more and more. Rather than move, families are choosing to invest in the homes they already like. As part of a wider programme of improvements, the owners decided to extend the house and add living space in the garden at the same time. They wanted a flexible room and a hot tub, set under a covered outdoor area so it could be used in any weather. Working alongside the extension plans, Cosy Garden Rooms designed and installed a bespoke garden room together with a covered decking area to bring all three together.

The garden room and hot tub area make full use of the width of the garden

A Building That Fills the End of the Garden

The building runs the full width at the end of the family garden. The insulated garden room sits on the right, with the hot tub area to the left under a canopy. The room itself is 4m x 2.7m, with a 3.5m canopy and matching composite decking laid around the 4m² hot tub.

This is the kind of brief that benefits from Cosy Garden Rooms designing each project around how it will be used and the site it sits on, rather than fitting it into a standard layout. The concrete slab foundation, installed as part of their turnkey service as standard, was well suited to carrying the weight of a filled hot tub — a practical advantage on a project like this one.

The owners can watch films from the hot tub

A Glazed Corner Between Room and Deck

The two sliding doors meet at the corner of the building, forming a glazed corner that opens the room toward both the decking and the hot tub. The effect is free-flowing access between the indoor and outdoor spaces, and it strengthens the connection between the room, the deck, and the hot tub. The owners like to sit in the hot tub and watch a film, and the corner glazing makes that an easy thing to do.

A tall window with a top-opening section frames a view onto the terrace, where the owners have made an outdoor seating area. The opening section is a sensible choice, giving easy ventilation without having to open the doors.

White finishes are the perfect backdrop for the owners furnishings

Stylish White Interior

Inside, the room follows Cosy Garden Rooms' signature pairing: grooved wall boards painted white, a smooth white ceiling, and light grey laminate flooring. The white finishes let the light from the windows bounce around the room, keeping it bright and neutral and comfortable to use year-round. Heating comes from two far infrared panels, a 600-watt and a 300-watt, while six dimmable LED spotlights and three power sockets serve the room. The canopy has its own six dimmable spotlights and two external power sockets.

A versatile family room has been created in the garden

Two Claddings, One Contemporary Look

Externally, the building combines two finishes. Maintenance-free Misty Wood composite slatted cladding runs across the front and left-hand side, with Anthracite Hardie® Plank on the back and right-hand side, paired with Anthracite Grey uPVC windows and doors. The texture and tone of the composite slats contrast neatly against the flat Anthracite Grey, and because all the finishes are chosen for their low maintenance, the building keeps this contemporary look rather than weathering and ageing the way natural timber would.

The Misty Wood cladding is paired with Anthracite Grey finishes

Today the room is used mainly as an entertainment and social space. The family's son regularly has friends over to watch sport and play Xbox, while the hot tub and covered deck give the family an outdoor area they can enjoy in any season. What they value most is the flexibility: a space that can quietly adapt to different uses as their needs change.

The owners have created a year round garden living space
