Creating a dedicated home gym is one of the most popular uses for a garden room building. By working with a company that specialises in bespoke design, you can have the building's size, layout, and finishes tailored to your unique requirements and tastes.
This recent project by Heritage Garden Studios in Doncaster is a great example of a garden room gym. Based in South Yorkshire, Heritage Garden Studios focuses their work in this region, allowing them to give each project the unique attention it deserves.
The Heritage Garden Studios team handles the entire project for clients, delivering a ready-to-use room. This service includes the installation of the foundation system and the complete build, including interior decorating and the final electrical connection between the garden gym and the main house.
6m x 4m Garden Gym
Heritage Garden Studios' clients chose a 6m x 4m building, equating to 24 square meters, providing ample room for a range of gym equipment while allowing space for easy movement around the room.
During the design process, Heritage Garden Studios works with clients to decide on the ideal layout of doors and windows. In this case, the owners selected four tilt-and-turn full-height windows, combined with two fixed-pane, wide full-height windows, and a single glazed door for easy access into the room.
Heritage Garden Studios' buildings are highly insulated thanks to their use of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), which form the core structure of their multi-layer buildings. Ventilation is important in insulated buildings, especially ones used as gyms, and the tilt-and-turn windows fitted by Heritage Garden Studios allow the owners to ventilate their space with ease.
We appreciate how Heritage Garden Studios and their clients have chosen to space the long windows around the building, rather than having one large section of glazing. This arrangement frames different views of the garden from inside the room, and the sections of cladding between the windows look very smart.
The choice of cream uPVC frames is a refreshing alternative to the commonly used Anthracite Grey. It's nice to see that Heritage Garden Studios offers their customers this level of choice to personalise their garden room.
Antique Green Composite Cladding
Two durable finishes were chosen for the exterior cladding of the garden gym. The prominent elevations have been finished in composite wood cladding with a slatted batten profile. Heritage Garden Studios offers this in a range of colours; in this case, their clients chose an antique green finish.
On the less prominent walls, cement fiberboard cladding has been fitted and painted in the same shade of green as the slatted composite finish. Cement fiberboard like this has an A1 fire rating and is highly durable, requiring little maintenance in the long term.
Mixing exterior cladding finishes can be a good way to maximise your budget when buying a garden room.
Light Modern Interior
Inside, Heritage Garden Studios plastered and decorated the walls and ceiling. The flooring is water-resistant laminate fitted over underfloor heating.
The garden gym is well-equipped electrically, with LED lighting recessed into the ceiling and a plentiful supply of electrical sockets for gym equipment.
Completing the tailor-made gym specification, Heritage Garden Studios installed five large mirrors, allowing the owners to monitor their exercise technique. The mirrors also enhance the sense of space in the already spacious garden gym.
