Dual entry garden office
A garden office set in the middle of a garden in Kent, with sliding doors at the back and bi-folds at the front so people can walk through it.
You are not limited to a single door when designing a garden office. This bespoke creation by Kent-based Ark Design Build is an excellent example of how you can position doors exactly where they are most needed.
Ark Design Build’s clients wanted their garden office placed centrally in the garden, leaving areas of the garden both in front and behind the building.
Since the office is positioned close to the garden’s boundaries, easy movement through the building was essential. This has been achieved by placing a set of sliding doors on the rear elevation and bi-fold doors on the front wall.
Ark Design Build has used this dual entry layout before in a self-contained living annexe, also positioned centrally within a garden. In that instance, the owners chose to install bi-fold doors on both the front and rear elevations.
At a glance
- Size: A bespoke office placed centrally in the garden.
- Built for: Working from home, with garden space in front and behind.
- Construction: Doors on two elevations: sliding doors at the rear, bi-folds at the front.
- Finishes: A composite deck shaped around the trees; plastered walls and ceilings inside.
- Company: Ark Design Build, who include internet cabling and the mains connection.
Composite deck shaped around trees
The bi-fold doors on the front elevation open onto a large composite deck. As seen in the photos, the decking has been carefully shaped around the existing trees, leaving space for their continued growth. Ark Design Build has demonstrated similar care for trees in previous projects, such as with a garden family room design.
Plastered and decorated interior
Ark Design Build finishes the interiors of their garden offices to a high standard. The walls and ceilings are plastered and decorated, providing a finish comparable to a new house.
Their electrical package is also well-considered, with features such as internet cabling included as standard. Ark Design Build even handles the connection of the office’s electrics to the mains supply in the house as part of their service.
