This recent project in Sevenoaks showcases the collaborative process between the client and the Ark Design Build team. The project involved creating an L-shaped art studio with a storage room. Initial plans were drawn up and agreed upon before work began, but as the building took shape, the client requested a softer corner detail on the storage room.
Because Ark Design Build uses traditional timber framing for their garden rooms, they were able to easily adjust the design and create an angled wall on the corner of the storage room. This small change softened the lines of the building, and the client was delighted with the result.
Modest-Sized Building with Two Functional Spaces
Many garden rooms with storage that we feature tend to be larger than this example. However, this L-shaped building makes great use of space, measuring 4.2 metres at its widest and 3.2 metres at its deepest. The layout divides the space into two functional rooms: the art studio is 3m x 3.2m, while the practical storage room measures 1.2m x 2m.
Setting the storage room back from the main elevation of the building is a clever design feature. This subtle adjustment helps the building blend into the existing garden, whereas a standard rectangular structure might have overwhelmed the space.

One of the standout features of their service is the inclusion of hardwired data cabling to bring reliable internet access to the garden room—something that many companies offer only as an upgrade.
In addition to the electrical work, Ark Design Build also arranged for water to be supplied to the art studio. A small sink was installed, allowing the client to wash paint brushes and other materials without needing to return to the main house. This is a prime example of the benefits of bespoke garden room design.
