Experienced industry names
Miniature Manors is a well-known name in the garden room industry, with years of experience in creating bespoke garden buildings for a variety of purposes. Over the years, we have featured several of their projects here on The Garden Room Guide.
One area of their expertise is creating soundproof studios tailored to their customers' specific acoustic requirements. Miniature Manors has recently launched a new range of soundproof specifications called Sonic Box Studios, which is a specialist soundproof garden studio range designed to provide musicians, podcasters, and other creative professionals with the perfect space to work.
Three soundproof specifications to choose from
Sonic Box Studios offers three different soundproof specification levels to choose from, depending on your needs. The Sonic Box Pro is their highest specification level, offering 50 to 55dB reduction*, making it the perfect choice for professional musicians, podcasters, and anyone who requires a high-spec sound isolation solution. The Sonic Box Lite, on the other hand, offers a 45 to 50dB reduction*. In comparison, the Sonic Box Leisure offers approximately 40dB reduction*, making them suitable for various uses such as home offices, music practice rooms and home entertainment spaces.
*It's important to note that the final dB reduction level will depend on the specifications you choose. Sonic Box Studios works closely with customers to ensure that they get the perfect soundproof garden room for their specific needs.
A combination of soundproofing techniques
Sonic Box Studios combine several soundproofing techniques into their buildings to achieve their sound reduction targets. They use high-performance insulation in their buildings' floor, wall, and roof structures. This insulation helps reduce the transmission of sound waves through the structure, providing a quieter, more controlled environment inside.
To increase the mass of their buildings, Sonic Box Studios incorporates heavy sheet materials and specialist membranes into the multi-layer structure. This adds mass to the building, helping to prevent sound waves from passing through. They also use decoupling techniques to stop different layers of material from touching each other. For example, they can use resilient bars to separate the plasterboard internal lining from the timber frame core structure. Creating a room within a room, like this, helps prevent sound vibrations from transferring from one material layer to another.
A weak point in a soundproof room is the glazing, which can leak sound. Sonic Box Studios can incorporate twin doors and window configurations fitted with acoustic glazing or panels into their buildings. This helps to reduce the amount of sound that can enter or exit the building through the windows and doors.
Sonic Box Studios also takes care of the electrical installations in their garden rooms, installing surface-mounted electrics that prevent air leakage within the core structure, enhancing the noise reduction performance in the room.
Sonic Box Studios offers a range of electrical options to tailor the specification to your specific requirements. For example, they can install wifi-enabled heating systems or acoustic air conditioning so you can create your perfect working environment all year round.
Contemporary style garden studios
Sonic Box Studios has a contemporary design style featuring the popular cubed roofline. Their garden rooms are 2.5m high, which means that they can be positioned under the Permitted Development rules with maximum flexibility. This makes them a great option for homeowners who want to add a soundproof garden room without the hassle of applying for planning permission.
The external finish of Sonic Box Studios is also customisable. Customers can choose from Thermowood cladding or cement fibre board options from the James Hardie range, which are both stylish and durable. uPVC doors and windows are offered as standard, but customers can upgrade to aluminium-framed options.
The roof of Sonic Box Studios is finished with EPDM, a highly durable membrane that is laid in one section and has a long lifespan. This combination of exterior finishes ensures that the garden room is well-protected from the elements and will require little maintenance in the long term.
