Executive Garden Rooms clients wanted to replace a much loved old summerhouse building with a modern, highly insulated structure that could be comfortably used all year round.
They wanted to replicate the New England style of the old summerhouse in the new building. As bespoke design specialists, the Executive Garden Rooms team were happy to work with their client's wishlist.
Garden room with storage room
The 7.2m by 3.5m garden room has been divided into two spaces. Each room has its own external entrance. The main space has French doors alongside a casement window. The second room has been designed as a storage room. This room is accessed via a single door.
Unusually, for modern garden room design. Georgian style windows have been fitted. These replicate the style of window used in the old summerhouse.
Traditional New England style using modern materials
Executive Garden Rooms clients wanted to create a garden room with a New England style. A key feature of this style is painted cladding.
Rather than use a timber cladding that would require painting and an ongoing maintenance commitment. Executive Garden Rooms use a cement fibre board cladding called Cedral. The boards are pre-coloured during manufacturing and will maintain their colour without repainting.
In this case, the customers chose a green/grey finish which looks sharp butted into the white wood effect uPVC doors and windows.
New England styling continues inside
Typically, Executive Garden Rooms have modern plastered and decorated interiors. As bespoke designers, they will, however, tailor the specification to your individual tastes. In this case, their clients wanted to continue the New England style inside their new room.
To this end, the Executive Garden Rooms team lined the walls and with tongue & groove wooden boards. With a coat of paint, this style of panelling creates a Shaker vibe.
A building not just for summer
Where the old summerhouse will have only been useable in summer, this new building can be comfortably used every day of the year. This is because Executive Garden Rooms offer one of the best insulation specifications in garden room design.
Executive Garden Rooms multi-layer build-up includes 140mm of foil backed rigid insulation in the walls and 100mm of such insulation in the floor and roof.
2.5 week build
This large garden room was built in two and a half weeks. It was supplied on a turnkey basis where the Executive Garden Rooms team project managed the whole build. The project came in at £1,150 per square meter all in.
