Ark Design Build have established a reputation for creating contemporary garden offices in Kent and the surrounding areas. We’ve recently featured several examples, including:
- Thermowood Garden Office – a stylish finish, Thermowood is a durable cladding that can be a more affordable alternative to Cedar.
- Garden Office Shed Combo – a 5m x 3m building that houses two distinct uses under one well-designed roof.
One Garden Building, Two Uses
Similar to the last example, this project by Ark Design Build combines a home office with a secret storage room. This building is slightly larger, measuring 5m wide by 3.5m deep. A partition wall divides the space into two separate rooms.
The main office is accessed through a 3-leaf set of bi-fold doors. The doors and windows are black, a finish that’s growing in popularity as an alternative to Anthracite Grey, which has been the trend for the past few years. Like grey, the black finish creates a striking contrast with the Cedar cladding used in this project.
Inside, the office space features laminate wood flooring and fully plastered and decorated walls and ceiling, which help to reflect light throughout the room—ideal for a workspace. A narrow rectangular window has been positioned high in the rear wall, a clever design choice. While it may not frame the best views, it allows extra light into the room and can be opened to let in fresh air.
Secret Storage Room
Next to the office is a hidden storage room, accessed through a ‘secret’ door finished with the same cladding as the exterior walls. Incorporating storage into garden office designs is becoming increasingly popular, offering a practical solution that keeps the garden tidy without the need for extra sheds.
Composite Entrance Deck
A composite wood deck spans the front of the building, creating an entrance to both the office and storage room. Composite decking is a popular choice among designers, as it requires minimal maintenance to retain its colour and doesn’t become slippery like traditional wooden decking.
A Complete Project
Ark Design Build managed the entire project for their clients, from laying the foundation to connecting the electrics to the mains supply. They pride themselves on transparency, offering packages that include heating and Cat6 data cabling for reliable internet connections without any hidden extras.
