High-Spec Insulated Double Garage

The multi-layer insulated timber buildings we feature here on The Garden Room Guide are predominantly utilised as home offices, gyms, and art studios. The versatility of this building system, however, extends to a myriad of uses. When working with a bespoke garden room designer, such as Executive Garden Rooms, clients can expect tailor-made solutions in size, layout, and design, all centred around their specific requirements.
A fine example of this custom approach is a 9m x 5.4m double garage designed by Executive Garden Rooms. The layout of this garage workshop, including a convenient cloakroom adjacent to the main workspace, was meticulously planned in collaboration with the clients. This project is not Executive Garden Rooms' first venture into insulated garages, we have written previously about a luxury garage workshop they built.
Positioned forward of the front elevation, this project necessitated planning approval due to its location in front of the main house's front elevation. Executive Garden Rooms expertly managed the planning permission application process on behalf of the client, as part of their comprehensive turnkey service.
Given the building's size, Building Control sign-off was also required. With a wealth of experience in navigating projects needing planning approval and compliance with Building Regulations, Executive Garden Rooms includes this as part of the overall service they offer clients.
Finishes & Features Tailored to the Project
During the design phase, Executive Garden Rooms collaborates closely with clients to understand their preferences for features and finishes. In this particular case, the interior walls and ceiling were finished with OSB boards, chosen for their durability and suitability for supporting shelves and cupboards in a workshop environment.
The garage boasts two insulated roller shutter doors, providing easy vehicle access, and a fully glazed side door for convenient daily entry to the workshop. The cloakroom, featuring a toilet and washbasin, was fully installed by Executive Garden Rooms, who handled all groundworks and plumbing to connect to the mains services. This installation received Building Control approval.
The garage features a well-specified electrical setup, with an ample number of LED downlights for optimal lighting in the workshop. External lighting near the doors, fitted with timers, and an external double power socket were also part of the electrical specification, all connected to the main house's electrical system by Executive Garden Rooms' electrician.
Low Maintenance Cedral Cladding
The exterior of the garage is clad with Cedral, a cement fibre board known for its dimensional stability and resistance to rot and fungal attack. Pre-coloured during manufacturing and available in various colours, Cedral boards feature a wood grain pattern, offering an attractive, low-maintenance finish.
