Garden2Office is one of the few garden room companies who offer a seamed metal roof on their pitched roof buildings. They specialise in Swedish garden rooms and their Malmo range which is a contemporary barn style building, features this durable and attractive finish.
This recent project showcases Garden2Office’s seamed metal roof finish. The basis of the design is the Malmo range, but the design has been tailored for the customer. Garden2Office’s customer wanted to create a building that could be used as a dog grooming parlour, and a bespoke version of the Malmo fitted the bill.
The contemporary barn styling of the Malmo garden room has been enhanced by the addition of lots of glazing. The building features two sets of bi-fold doors which open up one corner of the building onto the garden. There are also opening windows at each side of the room and triangular windows fitted into the gable end.
Garden2Office import a Swedish building system which is highly insulated to withstand Swedens colder climate. The specification includes triple glazed doors and windows, most garden rooms we feature make use of double glazed units, so this is an extra layer of thermal performance.
Velux skylights have been fitted in either side of the roof. These offer easy ventilation in the room and combined with the rest of the glazing, create a wonderfully light room.
Combining cladding finishes
It is becoming increasingly popular to combine cladding finishes on a garden room. Particularly in circumstances where a wall is not visible or will be difficult to access. It can make financial sense to focus an expensive cladding finish like Cedar on walls that are visible and use something more cost-effective on the non-visible sides.
In this case, the customer chose to have Cedar cladding fitted on two visible elevations. They then chose a cream Cedral weatherboard for the other two walls. Cedral is a cement particle board that comes pre-coloured and doesn’t require painting. As we can see from these photos, these two are not that easy to access, so the Cedral is a wise choice as it doesn’t require maintenance and will maintain its appearance.
Partitions for a storage area
A small storage shed area has been created at the front of the building. Partition walls have been used to divide the main room up. The storage room is then accessed via a ‘secret’ door on the front of the building. The door has been finished in the same Cedar cladding as the walls.
Vaulted ceiling creates an airy room
The pitched roofline of the Malmo range creates a vaulted ceiling inside the room. This gives the room a wonderful airy feel. Mixed with the windows and the customers colour statement with the feature wall, the room has a very spacious feel. We like how track spotlights have been run along the apex of the ceiling.
