Garden Karaoke Room Built to Keep the Noise In by Lux Garden Rooms

Garden Karaoke Room Built to Keep the Noise In by Lux Garden Rooms

Published: 15 September 2026
Reading Time: 3 minutes

A room you can entertain in comfortably all year round is a common ambition for a garden building. Working with a bespoke garden room company means the specification and the layout can both be designed to make it work for you. In this case the client wanted a space where they could enjoy karaoke sessions with friends without disturbing the neighbours.

Many of us live on housing estates where the neighbours are close by, and have areas in the garden that could be turned into a new room. Here it was a patio behind the garage, which the client felt could be more usable all year round. They chose Lux Garden Rooms to bring their vision to reality, and the 4.5m x 3.5m room was completed in three weeks.

Building From Inside the Footprint

The site is surrounded on three sides by the garage wall and the boundary fences. This type of build requires a team who are able to think ahead, as the walls go up from within the footprint of the room rather than from outside it. The exterior finishes on the enclosed sides have to be installed before each wall is lifted into position, because there is no getting to them afterwards. The Lux Garden Rooms team were up for the task.

A Corner of Glazing

Bringing the footprint forward of the garage wall creates a corner of glazing, so the room has good natural light despite where it sits. The door is on the side wall facing the path along the garage, and the windows are on the wall facing the lawn, so the two meet at the exposed corner. A short canopy with downlights covers the door.

Glazing is a balancing act when trying to control sound within a room, as it is the leakiest part of the structure. Here a half-glazed composite door has been paired with two tall, thin windows, each 600mm wide and running floor to ceiling, with opening top lights. A slot window on the back wall lets in a little more light.

Extra Layers to Keep the Sound In

Lux Garden Rooms use structural insulated panels (SIPs) at the core of their multi-layer walls and roof. The panels give a thermally efficient room as standard, but when the aim is to control loud noise, some additional layers help.

Here the team fixed resilient bars to the inside face of the SIPs. These are thin metal channels that hold the plasterboard slightly away from the wall, so sound in the room has no direct path through to the structure. Fixed to the bars are two layers of 12.5mm SoundBloc plasterboard, a denser board than standard, and doubling it up adds the mass that stops sound passing through. The rest of the wall build-up is the usual Lux specification.

One Colour Throughout

Externally the room is clad in Anthracite Grey composite shiplap with an embossed woodgrain texture, a low-maintenance board that never needs painting. The doors, windows and trims are the same colour. The choice of one colour creates a contemporary look.

Ready to Use

Inside, the walls are plastered and painted white, with oak-effect laminate on the floor. The electrical package runs to six spotlights, three double sockets and an electric radiator, with two wall lights outside flanking the windows. Lux Garden Rooms handled the whole project for their clients, leaving them with a ready-to-use room where the singing can carry on into the evening without the neighbours hearing it.
