Art Studio Garden Room in Rochdale

Art Studio Garden Room in Rochdale

Published: 1 August 2025
Reading Time: 2 minutes 40 seconds

Cosy Garden Rooms were commissioned to design and build a dedicated art studio for clients in Rochdale who had recently downsized their home. They wanted a light-filled creative space in the garden that would allow them to pursue their passion for painting.

A decked entrance step was added to overcome the sloping ground

This is not the first time buyers who have downsized have chosen to add a Cosy Garden Room to their new home. In a previous project, the team created an insulated garden room as a second sitting room with views of the surrounding countryside.

A Bespoke L-Shaped Layout

To maximise the available space, Cosy Garden Rooms designed a 5.5m x 2.4m building that extends to 3m in an L-shaped corner layout, providing 14.9sqm of usable floor area. The garden had a noticeable slope, so a raised concrete foundation was installed to create a level platform for the building. A composite decked step was then added to bridge the difference between the ground and the garden room floor level.

The centre-opening sliding doorset, framed by fixed panes, has been recessed to create a welcoming porch area. The roof canopy above is fitted with LED downlights, casting a soft wash of light over the entrance.

A tall window with an opening fanlight mirrors the height of the doors on the front elevation, with the same style repeated on the right-hand wall. Including opening windows is always a practical choice, allowing fresh air to circulate even when the main doors are closed.

A Contemporary Exterior Palette

The exterior combines low-maintenance Monterey Taupe Hardie Plank cladding with dark grey doors, windows, roof trims and canopy soffit. The Anthracite Grey skirt detail ties the two tones together, creating a smart, contemporary finish that sits comfortably within the established garden.

The Cosy Garden Rooms team clearly took care to protect the lawn and planting during installation. Their project managed service oversees every stage, from groundwork to finishing touches, leaving clients with a fully completed, ready-to-use room.

Designed as a Creative Space

Inside, the arrangement of glazing floods the studio with natural light, reflecting off the grooved panelled walls painted white and the seamless ceiling. This neutral backdrop is an ideal setting for the colours of the client’s artwork and furnishings. Light chestnut laminate flooring adds warmth, while ceiling-fitted LED downlights provide consistent illumination for evening work.

Underfloor heating with a wired thermostat ensures the studio is comfortable year-round, making it an inviting place to create in every season.

Tailored to the Client

The layout has been planned to allow space for a desk, art supplies and a pair of comfortable chairs, demonstrating how Cosy Garden Rooms tailor each design around its intended use.

The clients are delighted with their finished room and left this 5-star Trustpilot review:

Absolutely delighted with our garden room from these guys. From the initial web enquiry, conversations with Mark, then a site visit through to the highly efficient installation I cannot fault anything. A great team of lads rocked up and had the room up in 4 days with smooth efficiency then finished off beautifully by Chris the decorator.”
