Acoustic garden studio with secret storage room
Published: 3 December 2022
We have featured several of Garden Spaces' acoustic studios, but this is the first one we have featured that incorporates a storage room. Combining two uses under one roof is an excellent use of space, and as we can see from these photos, Garden Spaces are skilled at making the two uses work as one streamlined building.
The garden room has an external footprint of 6.5m x 4.45m, creating a 17.8 sqm sound studio and a 5.2 sqm storage room.
Many garden room companies say they offer soundproof garden studios, but Garden Spaces have really invested in their acoustic specifications. They provide a range of acoustic specification levels allowing you to choose the build-up that works for your intended use.
Multi-layer acoustic build-up
With structural insulated panels forming the core structure, Garden Spaces then added metal furring strips with fasteners with rubber decouplers to the walls and ceiling. They then applied a sandwich of one layer of acoustic plasterboard, a layer of acoustic rubber membrane and a further layer of acoustic plasterboard.
The room was then plastered and decorated, creating a light, spacious room, as seen in these photos.
Acoustic porch
Garden Spaces stand out when it comes to soundproof music studios because they offer the option of adding an acoustic porch which enhances the soundproof specification significantly.
Garden Spaces' acoustic porch comprises a single aluminium door with acoustic glazing and a wooden FD30 acoustic door with an acoustic drop-down seal, threshold seal and perimeter seal.
We like how the soundproof porch neatly sits within the lines of the roof canopy and decked step.
The storeroom has a different specification
While the soundproof room is made up of several layers of material, the storage room has a pared-back look.
The OSB surface of the SIPs panels has been left bare. This finish is highly durable and is an excellent choice for a storage area. As we can see, Garden Spaces have incorporated lighting and electrics in the storeroom.
Stained Thermowood cladding
The exterior of the garden room has been clad in Thermowood cladding. This softwood is treated at extremely high temperatures, creating structural changes in the wood to make it a highly durable finish ideal for exterior cladding.
Naturally, Thermowood has a honey-brown colouring and distinctive grain pattern. People often choose to leave the Thermowood its natural colour, but Garden Spaces customers chose an ebony stain finish in this case.
The stain that Garden Spaces applied has a natural oil base which offers a richness to the finish and enhances its durability.
Garden Spaces completed this build in just three and a half weeks on site, leaving their clients just to furnish their new spaces.
