4m x 2.5m Garden Office with Storage

4m x 2.5m Garden Office with Storage

Published: 27 August 2025
Reading Time: 3 minutes

This Green Retreats project caught our eye as it shows how you can incorporate a valuable storage room into a relatively small garden room. At 4m x 2.5m, equating to 10sqm, we would class this as a small garden room – yet it still manages to combine a comfortable home office with practical household storage in one well-planned building.

An example of the G3 range by Green Retreats

A Flexible Layout Using the G3 Range

This design is based on the Green Retreats G3 range, which has become a popular choice for its crisp, contemporary styling and versatile size options. The G3 can be configured from compact footprints for small gardens right up to 10m-wide multifunctional buildings, all kept under 2.5m high as standard to remain Permitted Development-friendly in most gardens.

We have featured several G3 projects recently, and each one demonstrates how the range can be tailored to suit individual clients and their gardens. In this case, the Green Retreats team and their client have created a practical two-room layout.

The client chose Green Retreats plastered and decorated finish

Office and Storage in One Building

The storage room sits on the right-hand side, accessed by a house-quality multi-point locking door. For a cohesive look, this door has been clad in the same FSC-certified Redwood timber as the rest of the exterior, blending seamlessly with the design. Rather than running the full depth of the building, the storage room is around 1.5m deep, leaving a clever alcove at the rear of the main office where the owners have fitted bookshelves.

This arrangement makes the most of the compact footprint, proving that even a small garden room can serve multiple functions when carefully planned.

A Light and Airy Garden Office

The main office has a wonderfully light and airy feel, enhanced by the plastered and decorated interior finish. The glazing configuration also plays a key role. A set of sliding patio doors on the front elevation stylishly turns the corner with a narrow fixed window on the side wall, creating a wrap-around effect that maximises views and natural light.

Further along the same wall, a lozenge-style opening window has been fitted high up – ideal for letting fresh air in and framing a garden view. Together, these choices create a bright, comfortable workspace designed for year-round use.

The room is naturally light thanks to the corner glazing configuration

Signature G3 Detailing

This project also features one of the G3’s signature styling options – the three-sided projection on the front elevation.. This combines the recessed step, roof canopy and projecting side wall to frame the façade, adding depth and definition to the design.

Behind the stylish exterior, the G3 system uses Green Retreats’ in-house engineered insulated structure, eco-friendly materials, and maintenance-free roofing, making it a robust and durable building that can be enjoyed in every season.

Electrical Specification

Green Retreats garden rooms come with a good standard electrical package, including sockets, lighting and heating, with options to personalise the specification. This makes it simple to connect to the internet, set up your office technology and stay linked with the wider world from the comfort of your garden.

Buying the G3

Green Retreats make it straightforward to explore the G3 range. You can use their online configurator to walk through design choices in 3D and see instant pricing updates, or visit one of their showrooms – their flagship Buckinghamshire site or their Twickenham hub.

Once you’re ready, their in-house team manage the entire process, from foundations to handing over the keys, giving you a smooth, professional experience.
