Many garden room buyers opt for a single material exterior finish on all walls. However, the trend is shifting towards a more diverse selection of materials. Many homeowners are now choosing low-maintenance options for less visible or hard-to-access walls, while selecting premium materials for the more prominent elevations.
This approach is not just practical; it also opens up aesthetic possibilities. Combining various colours, textures, and profiles can yield a building that's both visually captivating and uniquely styled, as demonstrated by this recent project from Executive Garden Rooms.
As part of a garden makeover, Executive Garden Rooms clients envisioned a modern garden room, which the bespoke design specialists brought to life.
The clients selected a trio of low-maintenance cladding materials to achieve the garden room's distinct aesthetic.
Render, Western Red Cedar, and Composite Cladding
The garden room measures 4.5m by 3.9m and features a modern cubist design, accentuated by a recessed front elevation framed by an overhanging canopy and cheek detail, finished in a crisp white render.
This render elegantly frames the recessed front wall, where a panel of vertically fixed Western Red Cedar cladding sits next to aluminium-framed bi-fold doors. The Cedar's natural reddish-brown hue contrasts beautifully against the white render.
For the side and rear walls, maintenance-free composite cladding was chosen, fitted vertically and colour-matched with the door and window frames. This harmonises well with the garden's fences and the adjacent pergola, providing a stunning backdrop to the planting in the new borders.
Each material was carefully selected for its durability and ease of maintenance, with the Executive Garden Rooms team ensuring a seamless transition between each finish.
A Well-Specified Interior
Inside, the Executive Garden Rooms are finished to a high standard, featuring plastered and painted walls and ceilings, complemented by quality wooden flooring. Explore the archive of articles we have written over the years and you will find plenty of examples of their interiors.
The bi-fold doors are paired with a tall side window, offering views of the pergola and facilitating easy ventilation with its opening section.
The doors feature concealed blinds within the glazing unit, a clever feature that minimises dust and allows for light and privacy control without hindering door functionality.
Executive Garden Rooms personalise the electrical setup to meet each client’s needs. This project included ample power sockets, LED downlights, air conditioning, and a hard-wired internet connection. They also manage the final electrical link to your home, ensuring the garden room is ready for immediate use upon completion.
