Garden Therapy Suite Designed for Holistic Practice

Garden Therapy Suite Designed for Holistic Practice

Published: 12 August 2025
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Garden rooms have become an increasingly popular choice for therapists seeking a professional workspace with the convenience of working from home. They offer the privacy and flexibility to create a layout tailored to specific needs—whether that’s one or more treatment rooms, a waiting area, or a cloakroom so clients don’t need to enter the main house. With the added benefit of being surrounded by the garden, they provide a calming and unique connection to the outdoors that can enhance the therapy experience.

This is exactly what one client achieved with her new 6m x 3.2m therapy suite, designed and built by Smart Modular Buildings.

The Evolve range has a contemporary form, the grooved MDF external cladding has been finished in black and paired with grey door and window frames

Choosing the Right Range

After considering different options and even applying for planning permission for a traditional build, the client decided that Smart’s Evolve range was the perfect solution. This contemporary design features a roof canopy running along the front elevation, with integrated external-grade puddle lights that add a welcoming touch after dark.

The Evolve range is designed to comply with Permitted Development rules, with a maximum height of 2.5m for most configurations, meaning planning permission is not required in many cases. It is available in a wide range of sizes, allowing buyers to choose proportions that best suit their plot and intended use.

For the exterior, the client selected a bold black finish paired with light grey doors and windows to create a striking contrast. The cladding is an exterior-grade MDF with a vertical groove profile that enhances the contemporary style. Available in a palette of modern colours, this finish is also relatively low-maintenance, retaining its crisp appearance for years with minimal upkeep.

Smart Modular Buildings offers a variety of glazing options, and this project combined French doors with tall windows that have opening top sections for easy ventilation. Most of the glazing was focused on the front and left-hand walls to frame beautiful countryside views, while a small opening window was included on the rear elevation of the main treatment room.

A Layout Designed Around the Business

One of the key advantages of working with Smart Modular Buildings is the flexibility to divide the footprint into separate rooms using partition walls. In this case, the internal layout includes a spacious main treatment room, a waiting area, and a cloakroom. Quality internal doors were specified, and the crisp white interior creates a clean, professional backdrop. A basin in the main treatment room helps maintain high hygiene standards.

Inside, the building feels bright and welcoming thanks to the well-planned window and door configuration. The integrated blinds within the glazing offer a neat, low-maintenance privacy solution.

Fast, Efficient Installation

From start to finish, the project was completed in just two weeks. The groundwork team prepared the foundation using ground screws, followed by the installation team who assembled the building on-site with precision and clear communication throughout. This efficient process meant there were no delays from waiting on multiple contractors, which is often the case with traditional builds.

The Evolve Garden Room

The Evolve range takes inspiration from traditional British architecture while incorporating contemporary detailing. Built with SMART’s TusC® construction system, the structure features heavy-duty 18mm marine ply integrated into a robust 4-inch chassis, industry-leading 40mm polyisocyanurate insulation, and a low-maintenance interior lining with a neutral silk finish. Every building in the range can be personalised, from the number and placement of windows and doors to the choice of colours and finishes.

A similar therapy suite could be created in any of Smart Modular Buildings’ seven ranges, all of which offer the same flexibility in terms of layout. It’s simply a matter of choosing the style and materials that suit your taste. As this client did, it’s well worth requesting a brochure and arranging to visit an example building before making your final decision.
