JML Garden Rooms were commissioned to design and build a bespoke garden room that would serve as a luxury hair salon, allowing the client to launch her own business from home.
Designed for a Professional Set-Up
The client had previously managed a high-end salon and was ready to take the next step by creating a private, welcoming space in her garden. She approached JML Garden Rooms with a clear brief: to create a professional salon environment with room for two styling stations, a backwash basin, WC, and a small kitchenette for refreshments—all within a 22sqm footprint.
The compact size raised some early concerns, but through thoughtful spatial planning and customisation of JML’s Lowlander model, the design was carefully tailored to make full use of the available space.
Elegant Exterior and High-Spec Interior
Externally, the building is finished in Western Red Cedar, fixed vertically to enhance the height of the structure. A corner configuration of floor-to-ceiling glazing wraps around one end of the building and includes a set of outward-opening doors. This glazed corner is subtly recessed, emphasising the clean, contemporary lines that define the Lowlander range.
Steps lead up to the entrance to overcome the sloping ground level, and the same vertical Cedar cladding has been used on the risers, creating a cohesive and considered finish.
Inside, the walls are plastered and decorated, creating a high-spec backdrop for the salon’s fittings and equipment. The result is a light-filled, professional space with a calming feel—perfect for one-to-one client appointments.
A Long-Term Investment
While a bespoke garden salon is a significant investment, the client saw it as a better long-term solution than renting a chair in a traditional salon. The building adds value to the property and offers future flexibility—easily repurposed as a garden office, treatment room, studio or guest space by future owners.
