There are many companies offering bespoke garden room designs, but some go the extra mile — creating spaces that are not only tailored in size and layout but also fitted internally to suit the client’s exact needs. Timeless Garden Rooms are masters of this approach, and this charming sewing room project is a perfect example.
Designed Around a Passion for Sewing and Upholstery
The owner wanted a dedicated space for dressmaking and upholstery work — somewhere with generous storage and natural light. The Timeless Garden Rooms team designed a 25sqm traditional garden room with a large open-plan workspace complemented by a kitchenette and cloakroom neatly positioned at one end.
Built in a National Park, the project required a full planning application, tree and archaeological surveys — all handled by the Timeless team as part of their turnkey service. Having worked in conservation and protected areas for many years, they are well-versed in navigating these additional layers of approval.
A Classic Timeless Exterior
The exterior embodies the timeless aesthetic that Timeless Garden Rooms are known for. Painted in a soft green Farrow & Ball tone with crisp white windows and detailed lead flashing beneath the sills, the building feels perfectly at home in its leafy setting. The green weatherboard cladding pairs beautifully with the reddish-brown tones of the cedar shingle roof, while the whole structure has been carefully positioned between three mature trees.
A sloping garden presented a challenge, but this was elegantly overcome through a tailored foundation design and subtle detailing at the base of the cladding and decking skirt. A deep covered veranda spans the front, looking deep enough for a small table and chairs — the perfect place to pause for coffee and enjoy views of the garden.
Light-Filled Interior Crafted with Care
Stepping inside, the sewing room has an uplifting, airy feel. Glazing on two elevations floods the workspace with natural light, while the pitched roof and exposed trusses create a sense of height and character. The warm tones of the roof timbers contrast beautifully with the cream plastered walls and ceiling.
Along one wall, a run of five double-doored cupboards and an open shelving unit provide discreet yet ample storage for fabrics and tools. These hand-built cabinets were designed precisely around the client’s requirements, keeping the main work area uncluttered and functional.
Kitchenette and Cloakroom
At one end, the room leads through to a cloakroom and kitchenette, both smartly designed and finished in a coordinating navy scheme. The cloakroom features a concealed toilet and vanity combination with a small opening window for light and ventilation. The kitchenette includes a sink and storage units — ideal for making drinks or preparing light snacks during the day.
As part of their turnkey service, Timeless Garden Rooms handled all service connections, including fresh water and drainage to the main house and the electrical supply to power the room and its fittings.
