A Range Garden Gym With Vaulted Ceiling by Green Retreats

A Range Garden Gym With Vaulted Ceiling by Green Retreats

Refreshed: 25 November 2025
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Spotted recently on Instagram, this impressive home gym showcases exactly why many fitness-focused buyers are opting for a pitched roof garden room rather than a mono-pitched design limited to 2.5m under Permitted Development. Green Retreats’ contemporary A Range features a vaulted ceiling that adds instant volume and height — a major advantage when using treadmills, rowers, free weights, or ceiling-height equipment where headroom really matters.

This project highlights beautifully how a pitched roof garden room can transform the feel and usability of a home gym, creating a bright, airy space that works just as well for focused workouts as it does for opening the doors and enjoying the garden.

The A Range – A Contemporary Pitched Roof Design

The A Range is Green Retreats’ dual-pitch garden room collection, created to offer a more architectural presence and greater internal height than a standard mono-pitch building. The vaulted ceiling gives the interior a wonderfully open atmosphere, making it feel spacious and uplifting from the moment you step inside.

Despite their taller profiles, A Range buildings can still be built under Permitted Development when positioned at least 2 metres from each boundary, as the ridge heights remain within the 4m PD limit. This gives buyers the freedom to enjoy the benefits of a pitched roof design without automatically needing Planning Permission.

A Well-Specified Garden Room With Options to Tailor

The A Range is built on a well-specified core structure designed for year-round comfort — high-performance insulation, energy-efficient glazing, a full electrical fit-out, and a choice of heating solutions come as part of the package. The vaulted ceiling created by the dual-pitch roof is one of the defining design elements, instantly increasing headroom and giving the building a light, airy quality that is particularly appealing for home gyms.

Buyers can also tailor the design to suit their intended use. Green Retreats offers a choice of cladding styles, window and door configurations, lighting options, and interior finishes, allowing each building to be personalised without compromising the underlying specification.

How This Owner Tailored Their A Range Garden Gym

This Instagram-featured project shows how the flexibility of the A Range can be used to create a highly functional and attractive home gym.

Gable-End Glazing for Balanced Light and Privacy

The owner selected a gable-end layout that mixes solid wall sections with carefully positioned glazing. A vertical slot window brings in daylight and a slim view of the garden without revealing the full interior, offering both privacy and natural light.

High-Level Glazing to Enhance the Vaulted Ceiling

Additional glazing positioned high in the gable floods the space with light from above. Because it sits above eye level, it keeps the room bright while leaving walls free for equipment and storage — a welcome detail in a gym setting.

Solid Walls for Mirrors and Media

The uninterrupted wall sections are used to mount a TV and large gym mirror. This is ideal for monitoring technique, following online classes, or adding entertainment to longer sessions on the treadmill or bike.

Bifold Doors Linking Gym and Garden

The front elevation is fitted with bifold doors that fold completely back to create a seamless connection with the garden. The composite deck, threshold and interior flooring are set at the same height, allowing an easy, step-free transition — perfect for cooling down outside or moving between spaces during a workout
