Crusoe Garden Rooms has shared a bespoke soundproof studio project completed in Market Harborough, designed as a multifunctional space for recording, teaching, and day-to-day use. Measuring 7m x 3.5m, the building sits neatly in a long, narrow garden and has been thoughtfully divided into two main rooms, with a third smaller room that will accommodate a composting loo and wash basin.
The front room serves as an office and lounge area, while the rear space is a professional recording and teaching studio. Together, the layout provides the client with a flexible setup that can be used across a typical working day. A 1.8m deep covered deck spans the front elevation — the perfect spot for a table and chairs.
Take a look around this studio:
Designed Around a Long Garden
Given the shape of the plot, Crusoe Garden Rooms arranged the internal layout so that the rooms sit one behind the other, maximising both usable space and flow. The design has maintained access paths along both sides of the building. This has allowed for the inclusion of wide, rectangular opening windows on each side elevation, ensuring that both main rooms benefit from excellent natural light and ventilation.
Bespoke Acoustic Specification
The studio room was designed with soundproofing in mind, using a combination of soft acoustic insulation and specialist sound block plasterboard. Crusoe Garden Rooms work closely with each client to create an acoustic spec that suits the intended use — whether it’s for music, voiceover work, or teaching. Designer Trevor brings a unique advantage to these builds, combining his background in sound engineering with years of hands-on experience crafting garden rooms. This blend of insight ensures the performance of each soundproof studio is grounded in practical knowledge and tailored execution.
Stylish Interior & Layout
Internally, the studio has a high-spec finish, with plaster-skimmed and painted walls, laminate flooring throughout, and two internal doors colour-matched to the floor for a cohesive feel. The rear studio and front office/lounge area both feature the wide rectangular opening windows, while the main room opens onto the covered deck through a set of sliding doors.
Electrics have been fully installed and connected, including Wi-Fi delivered via an armoured data cable — a thoughtful addition that supports reliable connectivity for work and teaching.
Cedar & Plywood Fusion Exterior
For the exterior, the client chose Crusoe’s Fusion cladding option, which pairs Western Red Cedar on the prominent elevations with stained marine-grade plywood on the others. The Cedar has been used to highlight the front wall and deck canopy, while the stained plywood matches the dark window and door frames, resulting in a modern, unified finish that will weather beautifully over time.
The covered 1.8m x 3.5m deck area is lit with recessed LED downlights in the canopy and up/down wall lights on either side of the sliding doors — creating a welcoming spot to relax into the evening.
