This project by Sanctum Garden Studios stands out for its dual-building design, tailored to the client's specific needs. The commission involved creating a garden gym with integrated bike storage and a separate workshop building.
Choosing a Local Garden Room Company
The client had a clear vision for the buildings they needed and decided to collaborate with a local garden room company to ensure the project aligned with their requirements. Sanctum Garden Studios, based in Chorley, Lancashire, was the ideal choice due to their expertise and proximity.
Home Gym with Bike Storage
The primary building is a 7.2m x 3m cedar-clad building from Sanctum's Contemporary Overhang Range. It was divided into two distinct rooms, each with its own external access.
Gym Space:
The gym features extensive floor-to-ceiling glazing, including French doors flanked by windows on the front elevation. A wide picture window on the side wall enhances natural light and frames views of the garden.
Bike Storage:
A discreet storage room provides space for bikes. It includes a single grey uPVC-framed door, customised with cedar inlays. This popular design blends the functionality of a uPVC door with the aesthetic appeal of cedar cladding, offering dimensional stability and multi-point locking.
This alternative to cedar-clad 'secret doors' is increasingly popular for its balance of practicality and style.
Bike Workshop
In addition to the gym, the client wanted a dedicated bike workshop. While this could have been integrated into the main building, a separate structure was created elsewhere in the garden.
The workshop's design shares the gym's robust construction but does not include insulation. Durable external cladding and a secure uPVC door were incorporated to ensure longevity and security.
The workshop features grey weatherboarding paired with dark grey uPVC trims, creating a sleek, modern appearance.
A solid uPVC door with a multi-point locking system was installed to safeguard the tools and bikes stored inside.
Build Process
Sanctum Garden Studios completed the project in just three days. This timeframe included plastering the walls and ceiling in the gym. While laminate flooring is typically fitted during the build, the client chose to install their own flooring post-completion.
