Garden rooms make ideal games rooms—a dedicated space where family and friends can gather to play and unwind. A garden games room can be tailored to suit your specific needs, as illustrated in this project by Garden Spaces, which includes a pool table and doubles as an occasional guest bedroom.
A Design Fit for Purpose
A pool table, with its slate bed, is quite heavy, so it’s essential to consider this weight when designing the foundation. For this project, Garden Spaces used a ground screw foundation, with extra ground screws added to support the pool table securely.
Since the room was also intended to serve as a guest bedroom, it needed to meet Building Regulations for use as a sleeping space. Garden Spaces, well-versed in these regulations, ensured the room was designed and built to comply.
Compact Shower Room for Added Convenience
In one corner of the room, a compact shower room has been installed—a feature that is increasingly popular among garden room buyers. Although adding a shower room can be a considerable investment, it significantly enhances both the usability and future value of a garden room.
6m x 5m Garden Games Room
Measuring 6 metres by 5 metres, this games room provides ample space for entertainment and relaxation. Large sliding doors combined with 1-metre-wide fixed glass panels bring in plenty of natural light and create a seamless connection to the garden. Additionally, a small, opening window is positioned high on the rear wall for added ventilation.
Rendered Exterior
Garden Spaces is one of the few companies offering a rendered exterior finish. They use silicon renders that are pre-coloured, ensuring lasting colour vibrancy. This project features a crisp white render, though customers can choose other colours if preferred. Three elevations of the building are rendered, while the rear wall uses cement particle board, which is cost-effective and durable. Made from a mix of cement and wood fibres, these boards are rot-resistant and dimensionally stable. They’ve been painted with white masonry paint to blend seamlessly with the rendered walls.
The roof kerbs and decking at the front have been colour-matched with the dark grey aluminium doors and windows, adding contrast to the white render and creating a modern look.
High-Quality Interior Finish
Inside, the games room is finished to the standard of a new house, with plastered walls and ceiling, skirting boards, and a prepared floor ready for the customer’s choice of flooring. Constructed with highly insulated SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels), the room stays comfortable year-round, aided by a slimline panel heater for colder days. The electrical package includes six double power sockets with brushed steel plates and twelve dimmable LED downlights in the ceiling, plus four external LED downlights to illuminate the exterior.
