This 4.8m x 3m (14.8sqm) garden office by Cabin Master is a medium-sized design that delivers a polished, day-to-day workspace with a strong visual identity. At 2.5m high, it has been designed to sit within the common height limit used for Permitted Development projects.
As with other Cabin Master projects, the room was tailored around the owner's preferred finishes, creating a personalised office space. We recently featured another Cabin Master office and sitting room with the same layout, but this one has a very different look and feel because of the wide range of options available to clients.
Light Grey Marley Board and Sliding Garden Access
Externally, the owner chose light grey Marley board from Cabin Master's palette of exterior options, paired with Anthracite Grey centre-meeting sliding doors. The doors open in the middle to create a wide opening onto the decked step, helping the room feel connected to the garden in every season.
Marley board is a fibre cement cladding with a timber-grain texture. It is available in a range of colours and is chosen for long-term durability and low maintenance: it does not need the regular painting cycle associated with many timber finishes.
Deck and Canopy Detail
A black composite deck step runs across the front of the building, and the roof overhang above mirrors that horizontal line. This gives the garden-facing elevation a clean, balanced profile.
Four external-grade LED downlights are set into the soffit, casting light down the front wall after dark. It is a practical detail for evening use and it also brings out the texture in the cladding.
Panelled Interior with a Feature Wall
Inside, Cabin Master's grooved wall panelling gives the room a stylish backdrop. White has been used on the front and side walls, while the rear wall is finished in Pencil Grey, creating a distinct feature wall that draws the eye.
The door and window frames are white internally, which pairs neatly with the painted panelling and keeps the palette consistent. The result is a neutral but styled backdrop that the owner has used effectively with their choice of office furniture and comfortable sofa area.
Both the desk and sofa are positioned at an angle to draw the view through the sliding doors and into the garden. It is a thoughtful layout move that strengthens the indoor-outdoor connection.
Daylight, Ventilation and Everyday Practicality
Each side wall includes a tall, narrow window with a top-opening fanlight. That arrangement brings in additional light from both directions and gives extra garden views from different positions in the room.
The opening fanlights also provide straightforward background ventilation without relying on the sliding doors, which is useful during cooler weather or when the owner wants privacy while working.
Electrics are fed from the main house, with power points and LED ceiling downlights installed so the room is ready to plug in and start work.
