There are many different heating options available when buying a garden room, one of the most popular being underfloor heating. Underfloor heating is a great choice for a garden room as it offers a comfortable, easy to control heating system, which is discreet and does not obstruct your positioning of furniture.
We have been speaking to the folks Varme Floor Heating Systems who tell us that they are finding more and more garden room buyers are specifying their electric underfloor heating systems in their garden rooms.
Underfloor heating will cost you more initially
Underfloor heating is one of the more expensive heating options when buying a garden room. On standard garden room builds you will be offered the option of a free standing oil filled radiator, or a wall mounted electric convector heater. The problem with these heating systems is that they take up valuable floor or wall space which limits the positioning of furniture and the free movement of people around the room.
Underfloor heating, on the other hand, sits beneath the floor covering so that you can position furniture without obstruction. Your initial outlay will be more than taking the standard option, but we have never heard a garden room buyer saying they regret spending a bit more on underfloor heating!
Electric underfloor heating is a cost effective way to heat a garden room
We asked Varme Floor Heating Systems about the costs of running underfloor heating in a 3.6m x 3.6m garden room. They tell us that the total load for a system in this size room would be 1.9Kw. Based on the factory settings of their fully programmable FH-01 thermostat, providing 9 hours of heat a day at a temperature of 22°c you’d be looking at a running cost of 81p per day.
Carbon heating film
The electric underfloor heating system by Varme which are used in garden rooms, is a carbon heating film. Their build up is a completely dry lay system with a total depth of 7mm. These videos show a typical build up.
