A quick look at the garden room buildings on show at the Chelsea Flower Show 2019.
Blue Forest have just launched the ecoPERCH, a 4 bed self contained accommodation unit, built to a high spec it offers a great business opportunity!
Each month our editor takes a look at the best garden rooms on the market, January’s choice is an individually designed ‘pool house’ by Blue Forest.
Many garden room suppliers profess to offer a bespoke design service but in reality just adapt their standard designs; a truly bespoke design service starts with a blank sheet of paper and a list of the customer’s requirements and the designers imagination. Blue Forest is one of the few companies who offer a truly bespoke design service, they take the customers site and requirements and create a truly unique building.
Blue Forest was asked to design and build a room for entertaining beside the customer’s swimming pool and what they created is a multifaceted building offering the customer many forms of entertainment. Built in oak the pool house is built to the highest specification offering the latest in technology whilst keeping the rustic appeal of a tree house.
The main room of the pool house has a vaulted ceiling creating a light and airy feel, the walls have vertical oak paneling and the doors and windows are positioned to frame views of the garden. This main room has a comfortable seating area and room for a dining table that seats eight, but it has been designed to transform with a flick of a switch into the ultimate home cinema.
Doors off the main room lead out onto a veranda with magical rope bridge that leads to an octagonal stilted deck which is the perfect outdoor seating area. The pool house is self contained with a custom built kitchen area and a high quality shower room.
Blue Forest start a project by doing a site visit which costs approximately 4% of the total project cost, this gives them the opportunity to survey the site and discuss the customer’s needs and requirements, they then prepare a bound project portfolio which includes plans, elevations and 3D computer renderings of the proposed building along with detailed specification.
As with anything custom made it is difficult to give an exact price guide, but Blue Forest estimate that buildings cost between £170 and £250 per square foot, which is very competitive with standard design garden rooms, especially when you consider the level of individual attention each customer gets.
The pool house highlighted here took Blue Forest six weeks to build, and with a little annual maintenance will last in excess of sixty years.
Did Blue Forest meet the customer’s brief of designing a room for entertaining – I should say so! If you are looking for a garden room that will surpass your expectations look no further than Blue Forest.

Blue Forest stands out from other garden room manufacturers because they build tree houses. Tree houses are no longer only the domain of children – far from it, Blue Forest create magical, inspirational spaces for adults.
Don’t think because you don’t have a suitable tree you can’t have a Blue Forest building as they can deliver a whole range of unique structures.
Blue Forest specialise in bespoke design, creating a building specifically tailored to your needs and tastes. Blue Forest are happy to work on a ‘Design Only’ or a ‘Design and Build’ basis, a small fee is taken up front – typically 4% of the construction cost, this covers a comprehensive site survey and a unique bound design portfolio which includes specifications, itemised quotation, construction schedule, scale plans and 3D rendered images of the proposed designs.
For the level of individual service they offer Blue Forest’s buildings are reasonably priced, as a rule of thumb prices range between £170 -£250 per square foot of floor space, if you have a fixed budget Blue Forest can work within these parameters.
Blue Forest has a strong emphasis on sustainability – the materials chosen and the techniques of craftsmen create a building which with a little maintenance will last in excess of 60 years.[caption id="attachment_323" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Inside the Hightec Hideaway by Blue Forest Ltd"][/caption]
Because of the uniqueness of each building it’s difficult to list all the materials used but Blue Forest buildings are clearly well specified and comply with Building Regulations. Planning permission will normally be required but the Blue Forest team is well equipped to offer advice and guidance.
