We often say that you can replace a garden shed with a functional garden office. This recent project by AMC Garden Rooms proves the point.
A pretty standard garden shed has been replaced with a highly insulated home office building that is 4m wide by 2.5 meters deep. The ideal size for two homeworking parents to work comfortably and for their teenage children to hotdesk!
The new office space is flooded with natural light thanks to the 2m wide set of sliding doors and large floor to ceiling window on the front elevation.
The AMC Garden Rooms design and installation teams took time to ensure that the threshold of the sliding doors would be level with the existing area of decking that the building would butt into. This attention to detail means that there is no step as you move between outside and inside spaces.
AMC Garden Rooms offer a range of materials you can choose from for the exterior cladding. In this case, their customer chose Siberian Larch as it would match in with the Larch cladding they had chosen for the main house.
Siberian Larch is a good low maintenance choice for a garden room as it has a natural resistance to rot and fungal attack. It starts out a soft honey colour and can be left unprotected to weather to a silvery grey shade. This change in colour does not affect the durability of the finish.
The electrical specification includes Cat5 data cabling from the main house. Hardwiring the data connection like this ensures that the owners will have a reliable, strong internet connection rather than the patchy service that can occur with HomePlug systems when used in a garden office builds.
Needed a garden office quickly
AMC Garden Rooms clients needed a garden office quickly. With both parents working from home and teenage children homeschooling, coupled with the imminent start date for major renovations on their house. They needed to create a place where they could quietly work.
Based in Cambridgeshire, AMC Garden Rooms were their local garden room specialist, and they had systems in place to be able to turn their client's ideas into a finished building, in just three weeks!
AMC Garden Rooms have developed a QuickConstruct™ system which means their buildings go together quickly once they arrive on-site. This ensures minimal disruption during the build process, and in these new times, we live in, means that social distancing measures can be adhered to.
This project was installed on a full installation basis by the AMC Garden Rooms team. They do, however, also offer a self-build kit service which could also be a good solution if you are short on time.
