As bespoke designers, Executive Garden Rooms will work closely with you to tailor the design around your intended use. With this recent project in Richmond, their customers wanted to create a space that could be used for a number of different uses, both now and in the future. Multifunctional rooms like this are becoming popular with families, who want to create a room that all members of the family can make use of.
At 5.6m x 5.4m, this virtually square room is a substantial size. Garden rooms that have a footprint of between 15 sqm and 30 sqm, that are sited within 1 meter of a boundary, need to be built from substantially non-combustible materials, to comply with Building Regulations. This building is 30 square meters, so to ensure compliance, the Executive Garden Rooms team clad the exterior of the building with Cedral weatherboarding.
Cedral is a popular finish for garden rooms that need to comply with Building Regulations as it has a low fire rating. This is a particularly important feature when building within 1 meter of any boundary. Cedral is a cement fibre board that comes pre-coloured and will maintain its colour and appearance as it ages. Many buyers prefer it to Cedar cladding for this reason.
The durable exterior finishes have been completed with grey uPVC doors and windows and a multi-layer hot torch roof covering.
Executive Garden Room’s customer wanted to create a naturally light garden room and frame the views of their pretty garden. To ensure this, the Executive team designed a corner of floor to ceiling glazing. This is made up from a mix of French doors and fixed glazed panels. With a room this deep, it is a good idea to incorporate some glazing at the rear of the room too. In this case, two letterbox style opening windows have been positioned high in the wall. These windows let in light but can also be easily opened for ventilation.
Like all Executive Garden Room projects we explore, this building has a well specified electrical package. It includes thermostatically controlled, panel wall heaters, LED downlights a smoke alarm and wifi connection. Exterior lights have also been fitted.
Executive Garden Rooms offer a turnkey installation service, so they organised the connection of the electrics to the mains supply. This is a task that many other garden room companies ask you to organise once they have left the site.
