Following a major fire and manufacturing issues, there is a Europe wide shortage of the key chemical that is used in the manufacturing process of PIR insulation. PIR insulations such as Celotex and Kingspan are the insulation of choice for many garden room companies as they offer high levels of thermal performance while keeping walls as thin as possible, thus increasing floor space within the room.
There has been a shortage of insulation for the best part of the year and as stockpiles reduce this has had an effect on lead times and prices for many garden room companies, particularly the smaller ones.
The effects of this insulation shortage are really starting to show in the garden room industry. We are starting to see the prices of garden rooms that use PIR insulation go up or designers looking to replace PIR insulation in their specification – luckily there are other options they can adopt.
Bare this shortage in mind when talking with garden room companies, they are not spinning you a line if they tell you that lead times are longer than normal or that their prices are going up soon!
