We are excited to introduce you to the work of A Room in the Garden, a Brighton based company specialising in bespoke garden room design. There are a lot of bespoke garden room designers in the UK, but A Room in the Garden stand out in their devotion to treating each customer and project as an individual.
What has stood out to us in exploring their work is how they will source the right materials for each project, there is no standard specification. For example, one of their buildings features stained glass windows; another featured outdoor wallpaper, while another has a giant metal rabbit detailing as part of the exterior cladding. This is truly tailoring the design and specification to the client's tastes.
The shape and layout of A Room in the Garden building can also be tailored around the intended site. For instance, they can shape their rooms around the needs of a tree. A recent customer had a Eucalyptus tree they wanted to preserve. They were not keen to cut the tree, yet wanted to maximise the space in the garden room. Cleverly, the A Room In The Garden team shaped the SIPs structure around the tree, as we can see from this Instagram post:
Built using highly insulated SIP's
A Room in the Garden makes use of the versatile ground screw foundation system, which is quick to install and can overcome many site challenges. They then use highly insulated SIP's panels for the core structure of their buildings. The SIP's panels form the floor, wall and roof structure. This insulated core forms the basis for the A Room in the Garden team to work with you to choose the external and internal finishes.
As we can see from this gallery of photos, some customers have chosen popular contemporary finishes such as Cedar cladding and plastered and decorated interiors, while other customers have chosen much more personalised finishes. Click any of the images to open larger versions in a lightbox:
No project to big or small
Over the last two years, the A Room in the Garden team have worked on projects big and small. They range from compact artists studios through to a 110 square meter building complete with kitchen, bathroom and sauna. Prices start at just £12,000 but are obviously dependant on building size and the specification you choose.
