Creating a tailor-made creative space is a popular use for a garden room. Since well-specified garden rooms are multi-layer structures that utilise the same materials and techniques used in modern house building, you can be assured of a comfortable space to work in all year round. Additionally, you can be reassured that your materials and finished pieces will be stored in optimal conditions.
Based in Dorset, Executive Garden Rooms is an experienced company that has designed many bespoke garden art studios for clients. Over the years of following their work, one of our favourite examples of their art studios is this 5.4m x 3.9m building, which features bi-fold doors for a lovely indoor-outdoor feel, a run of cupboards for material storage, and a sink for cleaning brushes.
Executive Garden Rooms work closely with each client to design a garden art studio that meets their needs. A recent project in Devon demonstrates this approach. The client's garden steeply slopes and had difficult access, but they envisioned an art studio at the top of the garden to maximise their views over the Devon countryside.
The Executive Garden Rooms team are experienced and take these kinds of site challenges in their stride. They installed a reinforced concrete base, creating a strong level foundation for the rest of the build.
8m x 3.5m Garden Art Studio
The 8m x 3.5m garden room has a glazing configuration designed to maximise the views of the countryside. This bespoke layout incorporates a set of French doors and a run of top-hung opening windows positioned at bench height, ensuring the owner has great views and excellent natural light as they work. We like how the Executive team designed the building so the glazing wraps around the corner of the room.
With the glazing focused at one end of the room, the owner has plenty of options for storage or displaying their work. As we can see, Executive Garden Rooms finish their buildings to a high standard with quality wooden flooring paired with plastered and decorated walls and ceilings.
The electrical specification includes a plentiful supply of double power sockets, the location of which was decided in conjunction with the client and their planned use of the studio. LED downlights have been recessed into the ceiling. The electrical specification also includes a TP WiFi point and a smoke alarm.
To both heat and cool the room, Executive Garden Rooms fitted an air conditioning system. The system they use is equipped with WiFi so the owners can control the air conditioning remotely via an app. This allows them to switch it on from the house, ensuring the room is at their ideal temperature when they arrive at the studio. This system also features a movement sensor, so if the room is unoccupied for any length of time, the air conditioning will power down.
The Executive Garden Rooms electricians undertake the final connection between the new garden room and the house as part of their turnkey service.
Low-Maintenance Garden Studio
The palette of external finishes used means that Executive Garden Rooms clients will have little maintenance to do to keep their garden studio in good condition. The building has been clad in Cedral, a composite cement fibre board. It has a lovely woodgrain texture and comes in a wide range of colours. It doesn’t require painting to maintain its appearance. The owners chose the Light Mist colour, which pairs smartly with the Anthracite Grey uPVC door and window frames.
