One of the advantages of working with a bespoke garden room designer is that the size and configuration of the building can be tailored around how you actually plan to use it, rather than fitted to a standard catalogue model. One respected name in this field is Ark Design Build, based in Tunbridge Wells and working on projects across Kent and the surrounding areas.
This project is a great example of that approach. Ark Design Build created a 53sqm building that serves three distinct uses: a home gym, an office and a storage room. Despite the different functions, the team's design and finishing ensure the rooms work as one coherent space.
One Building, Three Rooms
Each room has its own external access, so they can be used entirely independently. The two main rooms also share a connecting internal door, opening up flexibility for how the building might be used in the future.
Both main rooms are accessed via aluminium-framed sliding doors, which frame expansive views of the garden. The front elevation, where the entrances to the main rooms sit, is defined by a wall cheek and canopy detail that adds architectural interest to the façade.
A Durable Exterior in Western Red Cedar
Western Red Cedar has been used externally, offering long-term durability thanks to its natural resistance to rot and decay. A Millboard deck terrace runs along the front elevation, giving a low-maintenance surface that ties the entrances together.
A Light-Filled Interior
Inside, Ark Design Build finish their rooms to a high standard, working closely with clients to incorporate features and fittings that suit their tastes. The plastered and decorated finishes help natural light bounce around the rooms, and large roof skylights ensure the middle and back of each room are as bright as the glazed front.
Building Regulations and a Turnkey Service
Garden rooms over 30sqm need to comply with Building Regulations, and Ark Design Build are fully au fait with this process, handling associated planning applications as part of their service. They offer a true turnkey service, including final connections, so the building is ready to use the moment they leave site.
