This stylish garden room has been designed as a dedicated sewing space. Swift Unlimited worked closely with their client to create a spacious, light-filled building that accommodates a sewing table, cutting table, and ample storage. The inclusion of windows on three elevations ensures excellent natural light for working during the day, while recessed LED downlights provide ideal illumination for evening use.
Although its primary function is now as a sewing room, this versatile building was initially constructed to serve as temporary accommodation while the main house underwent renovation. Swift Unlimited has extensive experience designing multi-functional garden rooms, including those that meet Building Regulation standards for living spaces—a service not offered by all garden room companies. Over the years, Swift Unlimited has created numerous liveable garden rooms, including bespoke granny annexes.
Thoughtful Additions for Comfortable Living
To support its use as temporary accommodation, the building features a compact shower room and kitchenette. These facilities were seamlessly incorporated into the design and enhance its functionality now that it serves as a sewing room. As part of their comprehensive turnkey service, Swift Unlimited also handled the groundwork, as well as the connection of water and waste to the mains.
Bespoke Design Features
Swift Unlimited are known for their bespoke design expertise and their willingness to push boundaries in garden room design. This project features a striking curved wall—a detail that elevates the building’s aesthetic, where many other designers might have opted for a simpler straight wall. Measuring 7 metres wide by 4 metres deep, the main room boasts an L-shaped layout for optimised functionality.
A deck and roof canopy extend beyond the bi-fold doors, creating a sheltered entrance and a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Black composite decking was chosen for the veranda, complementing the Cedar cladding that highlights the curved roof canopy. The black roof kerb has been elegantly shaped to follow the curve, enhancing the design’s cohesion.
Clever Window Placement
The use of narrow, full-height windows strategically positioned around the room adds to its appeal. These windows not only allow natural light to flood the space but also frame captivating views of the landscaped garden, creating an inspiring and tranquil workspace.
