Revisiting a Dual-Use Garden Studio Ten Years On

Back in May 2015, Crusoe Garden Rooms Limited were commissioned by clients in Nottinghamshire to design and build a bespoke garden room. The result was a striking 6m x 3m building, tailored to meet the couple’s creative and practical needs.
The clients wanted one cohesive space with two clearly defined areas. Crusoe Garden Rooms incorporated a partition wall into the design, allowing husband and wife to each have their own dedicated studio. One side became a music room, with a glazed door flooding the space with natural light. The other side was transformed into a bright craft studio, complete with French doors and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the surrounding garden. The layout offered two personal workspaces under one roof—exactly as the couple had envisioned.
Finished externally in durable Western Red Cedar cladding and accented with integrated downlights in the canopy, the building was inspired by the colours and styling of traditional properties along England’s east coast. Painted black, with white uPVC doors and windows to complement the client’s home, the finished building made a real visual statement in the garden.

Ten Years Later
A decade on, this garden room remains a much-loved, fully functioning space. It continues to evolve with the couple’s needs—a warm, light-filled creative hub that stands as a testament to the lasting quality and flexibility of a made-to-measure Crusoe Garden Room.
