Did you know that, with the right permissions, you can create an extra income stream from a garden annexe? Families are building annexes that can be rented out to paying guests through platforms like Airbnb. If you live near a popular attraction, you could enjoy a steady flow of guests throughout the year.
Miniature Manors completed a self-contained annexe for a client looking to generate extra income in this way. The project took a year from the initial contact through to completion, as the client researched their options and navigated the planning application process.
For a self-contained annexe like this, both planning permission and building control approval are required. Miniature Manors worked with an architect to design the plans in their signature style. The architect ensured the structure met building regulations and managed the planning and building control applications. This process also included an S106 application for connecting the new building to the sewerage system.
The New Annexe Replaced an Old Garage
The new annexe was built on the site of an old garage, so storage space had to be incorporated into the new design to replace the lost garage storage.
The result is a comfortable living space with a large room that accommodates a double bed and a seating area with a TV. French doors open from the room onto a decked terrace, with space for a table and chairs. A well-equipped kitchen includes a dining area, and there is a modern shower room.
The building’s exterior has a contemporary look, with feather-edge cladding providing a textured alternative to traditional tongue-and-groove boards. Inside, the annexe is plastered and decorated, creating a bright and airy feel—perfect for a holiday retreat.
