When building a garden room, it’s important to consider how it will complement your main house. Some homeowners embrace a striking contrast, while others prefer designs that echo the architectural style of their home.
In this project, JML Garden Rooms was commissioned to create a modern yet traditionally inspired garden room that seamlessly blended with the character of the main house.
Reclaimed Materials Add Traditional Charm
The client opted for a pitched roof garden room from JML’s Highlander Range, with a bespoke design tailored to reflect the traditional aesthetic of their home.
To achieve this, the JML Garden Rooms team sourced reclaimed Scottish slate for the roof, paired with cast iron downpipes for the rainwater system. These timeless materials were thoughtfully combined with triple-glazed aluminium-framed doors and windows, ensuring modern functionality without compromising the room’s classic appeal.
A Multifunctional Space in the Garden
The project was born out of the client’s desire to spend more time outdoors while taking in the breathtaking views of the Perthshire Hills.
The garden room was designed to serve multiple purposes:
- A tranquil space for yoga and painting.
- A cosy retreat for family film nights and watching sport, enhanced by the inclusion of a flat-screen TV.
- A quiet study area for homework and exam preparation.
- To further integrate the garden room with its surroundings, French doors open onto a large deck. This design creates a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, perfect for enjoying the garden and the views beyond.
Bespoke Storage Solutions
JML Garden Rooms provided a full turnkey service, managing every aspect of the build—from ground clearance to the creation of tailored storage solutions.
The client’s needs were carefully considered, with JML’s in-house joiners crafting bespoke MDF wall cabinets and drying racks for art supplies. These were painted to complement the garden room’s interior, ensuring a cohesive and polished finish.
