Made-to-measure studio for Yorkshire Ceramicist…
Published: 3 April 2023
Tasked in December 2022 to build a bespoke garden studio for a well known Yorkshire ceramicist, Crusoe Garden Rooms Limited recently completed this 6m by 3m room.
Completely made-to-measure, this ceramics studio is vertically clad in beautiful hardy Western Red cedar on the front, sides and overhang, with beautiful up/down lights on either side of the sliding doors, and downlights in the canopy to create an atmospheric area sheltered from the sometimes gusty North-East coast weather!
White UPVC has been used here to blend with the client’s house and holiday cottage. The back was clad in exterior grade plywood painted black to give as little impact to the neighbouring gardens as possible. The slit window created in the back of the studio brings in the all important northern light for the artist whilst retaining complete privacy.
Extra electrics were required for the kiln and extractor fan for the ceramicist, so with the downlights, double sockets, radiator, full insulation, plastering and painting throughout that come as standard, the client now has a fully functioning, warm, light creative space on her own doorstep. With a beautiful laminate floor as standard, the studio is also future proofed for use as a simple garden room, home office, yoga studio or counselling space - you choose!
Work surface and storage measurements were taken into consideration in the design and placement of the doors and windows, giving the client the exact workspace she needed whilst framing all the beautiful views available.
