When a family in Derbyshire decided it was time to replace their cold, damp summerhouse, they had a clear vision: a multifunctional garden room that would serve as a relaxing retreat, a productive home office, and a practical storage solution. They chose Cosy Garden Rooms to bring that vision to life — attracted by the company’s reputation for well-built, low maintenance designs and their ability to handle the whole project from start to finish.
Designed Around Everyday Life
The finished building is a 6m x 3m garden room divided into two distinct zones. On the left, a discreet storage room is tucked neatly behind a dark grey door that blends seamlessly into the matching cladding. This solid-panel uPVC door is fitted with a multi-point locking system, ensuring that tools and garden equipment are kept safe and secure.
The remainder of the building forms a wonderfully light and inviting living space — a blend of work and leisure areas that support daily life. One end of the room has been set up as a home office, while the other is a cosy sitting area where the family can relax or the children can play. Thanks to a large set of centre-meeting sliding doors and a tall glazed corner section, the space is flooded with natural light and offers a framed view right into the heart of the garden.
Thoughtful Finishes Inside and Out
We’re enjoying the thoughtful choice of cladding finishes, which balance durability and aesthetics. Cosy Garden Rooms are known for their low maintenance approach, and this building combines grey Hardie® Plank cladding on the less visible elevations with stylish Cedar-effect slatted composite panels on the front and right-hand sides. These slatted panels bring warmth and texture to the exterior and have been cleverly continued in a band beneath the sliding doors and storage room door, tying the whole front elevation together with a smart, cohesive look.
A 300mm roof overhang along the front and side adds architectural interest while providing practical shelter. Exterior-grade downlights are integrated into the canopy, extending the building’s function and charm into the evening hours.
Inside, the space has the feel of a comfortable room in the house. While the doors and windows are dark grey on the outside, their internal faces are white — matching the crisp white walls and ceiling. Grey laminate flooring ties the look together, and the owners have added homely touches like a sofa and curtains to make the space their own.
Turnkey Service from Start to Finish
Cosy Garden Rooms handled every stage of the project — from installing the concrete base through to the final electrical connection between the garden room and house. This full turnkey service allows homeowners to sit back and watch their ideas come to life, knowing every detail is taken care of by an experienced team.
Whether you’re working from home, looking for a peaceful retreat, or simply need more usable space, a garden room like this one proves that style, practicality and low maintenance design can go hand-in-hand.
