AMC Garden Rooms have created a bespoke L-shaped living annexe in Hertford, designed specifically to meet the needs of a family with teenage children. This self-contained home offers comfort, style, and independence while being conveniently located in the garden of the family home.

Purpose-Designed for Teenagers
This L-shaped annexe provides ample space for two teenagers to live independently while staying close to family. The accommodation is thoughtfully arranged to maximise comfort and functionality:
- Two double bedrooms: Spacious and well-proportioned, offering privacy and comfort.
- Well-appointed shower room and utility room: Designed for practicality, with stylish antique brass fittings.
- Main living space: A bright and inviting area with double-aspect windows framing views of the newly landscaped garden.
With an external footprint of 70.78sqm, the L-shaped layout cleverly separates the living and sleeping areas. The two bedrooms and shower room are located at one end of the building, while the main living space extends into the narrower wing of the structure.
High-Spec Interior Finishes
The interior of the annexe was designed with a focus on creating a premium, cohesive finish. The walls, ceilings, skirting, doors, and architraves were all painted in the same colour, a design approach known as 'colour drenching,' which gives the space a sophisticated and unified look.
The kitchen is fitted in an L-shaped configuration, providing a full run of units and appliances for a well-equipped and stylish cooking space. The design includes a single oven, microwave, full-height fridge, a 4-plate hob, and luxurious quartz worktops, combining functionality with elegance.
Elsewhere, oak laminate flooring flows throughout the annexe, except in the bathroom, where practical vinyl flooring has been installed. High-end details continue with antique brass fittings for the sanitaryware and matching finishes for door handles and the kitchen tap. Additionally, screwless electrical switches and sockets have been used throughout, echoing the quality of the main family home.
Low-Maintenance Exterior Design
Externally, the annexe is clad in no-maintenance black Cedral Lap cladding, which extends seamlessly down to the base of the building for a contemporary look. Every detail has been carefully considered, including the housing for the air conditioning unit, which has been sprayed black to match the cladding, ensuring it blends in perfectly with the overall design.
