L-Shape Garden Office & Family Entertainment Space

This L-shaped garden room by Miniature Manors shows how working with a bespoke designer can tailor a building to your intended use and your garden. Rather than a standard rectangular building, the layout splits into two connected wings — a smaller area for a dedicated office and a larger space for family life and entertaining — with the rooms flowing together as one cohesive space. The result is a multifunctional building under one roof that lets work and family uses sit alongside one another without conflict.
A Layout That Flows
The building sits on a footprint of 6.5m x 3.5m combined with a 2.3m x 2m addition. The smaller wing houses a professional workspace, with a large opening picture window that brings in daylight and frames views into the heart of the garden. The main wing is a family entertainment area: a comfortable seating zone and a large dining table sit between 3m-wide aluminium bi-fold doors on the front elevation and a floor-to-ceiling picture window at the rear. Glazing and door positions were carefully considered to maximise daylight and outward views, and the bi-folds open the space directly onto the garden when the weather allows.
A Large Rear Window with Wow Factor
More and more homeowners are adding glazing to the rear of their garden rooms to frame views or capture extra light. Here, the implementation is particularly noteworthy. The rear window is a large 2.4m expanse of glass — a single pane with no supporting dividers — which gives the room a strong sense of openness and a clear view of the garden behind the building. It reinforces the connection between the interior and the garden setting and keeps the space bright from both sides. We are sure it's a real talking point with guests!
High-Spec Interior Finish
Miniature Manors finished the room to a high specification. White plastered and decorated walls and ceilings and laminate flooring create a calm, house-quality backdrop for the client's furnishings. The space reads as a true extension of the family living area — not a standalone garden building. Air-conditioning ensures consistent conditions throughout the year, so the room is comfortable in every season.
Built for Year-Round Use and Low Maintenance
Miniature Manors build using a traditional insulated timber frame with multiple layers of material, creating a long-lasting structure that is comfortable to use every day of the year. The exterior is low maintenance: high-spec aluminium doors and windows and James Hardie Plank weatherboard cladding in Cobblestone — a creamy tone that works well with the anthracite grey of the door and window frames and trim. The garden room will maintain its appearance in the long term without requiring input from the owners.
Electrics and Turnkey Handover
The electrical specification includes LED downlights internally and externally, and socket positions were agreed with the clients to suit their layout and furniture. Miniature Manors handled the whole project, including the electrical connection back to the house, so the building was ready to use as soon as they left the site. The scope also included landscaping: a new patio was installed to wrap around the building and align with the bi-fold doors, creating a seamless transition between inside and out.
