This bespoke home gym and office building differs from many other examples we've shared, as it was designed and built to annexe specifications rather than standard garden room standards. The project required planning approval, and the design complies with current Building Regulations, with all work signed off by Building Control.
Although primarily designed as a home gym and office, the 42sqm L-shaped building—comprising two main rooms, a kitchen, and a shower room—offers versatile future use, including potential sleeping accommodation.
Ark Design Build specialises in bespoke designs, tailoring each project to the client’s needs. In this case, they included a tiled roof and ensured compliance with Building Control requirements, such as load-testing ground screw foundations. Ark Design Build managed the entire process as part of their comprehensive turnkey service, focusing on projects in Kent and surrounding areas.
Home Gym with Vaulted Ceiling
The building’s pitched roof allows for vaulted ceilings in both the gym and office, creating a spacious feel. The interior features sleek finishes, modern laminate flooring, and wide aluminium bi-fold doors, ensuring a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The high ceiling is particularly beneficial for gym equipment.
Ark Design Build customises the electrical setup for each client. This gym includes air conditioning, an integrated speaker system, and hardwired data cabling, ideal for streaming TV, music, and online classes.
Office Overlooking the Garden
The smaller room, designated as the office, offers lovely garden views through its bespoke window arrangement. A combination of casement windows at desk height and a glazed gable end above ensures a bright workspace.
As with the gym, the office is equipped with air conditioning. Double power sockets are strategically placed throughout, and recessed downlights are fitted into the vaulted ceiling.
Unlike many competitors, Ark Design Build handles the final electrical connection between the annexe and the main house as part of their turnkey service. This ensures that when the Ark team leaves, your new rooms are fully operational and ready to use.
Durable, Stylish Exteriors
Ark Design Build’s exterior design combines style and practicality. The walls feature Western Red Cedar cladding with a distinctive shadow gap profile, while a Millboard deck with integrated steps leads to the entrances. Millboard, a premium composite board, is noted for its attractive grain pattern.
