Geodesic dome garden rooms & glamping pods
Published: 2 February 2023
If you are looking for a garden room that stands out from the crowd, you'll want to explore the work of Snowdon Domes, who offer a range of timber-framed geodesic domes that can be used as garden rooms or glamping pods.
Snowdon Domes offer their pods in several sizes. The 3.5m diameter Tryfan design would make a wonderful garden room. These versatile spaces could be used as a home office, family entertainment space, art studio, yoga studio etc.
Each Snowdon Dome is insulated for comfortable year-round use. The curved form of the dome retains heat better than other shape buildings. Some of the glazed sections are opening, so you can easily control the temperature in the room.
If you want a self-contained garden room or glamping pod, Snowdon Domes can design in a shower room, kitchen area or mezzanine floor.
Timber geodesic frame
Each of the triangles that make up the geodesic frame is made by the Snowdon Domes team. These sections are made up of multiple layers, including the timber frame, insulation and membranes, to keep the structure weather tight.
The exterior of each triangle is finished in durable wood cladding. You can choose from treated Redwood cladding or Western Red Cedar, which has a lovely natural colouring. Both cladding options have long maintenance-free lifespans.
When joined together, the cladding on the triangular sections creates a lovely pattern. This configuration particularly showcases the lovely natural colouring of the Western Red Cedar cladding option.
Unique glazing configurations
The beauty of the geodesic form is that you can mix solid sections and glazed sections to suit your intended use and the views you want to frame.
With the dome shape, you have more opportunity to create an interesting glazing configuration than in a more traditionally shaped garden room design.
Just look at these images showing how you could create a wave of glazing running over the building. That would create a lovely feel inside the space - a real talking point.
As we can see in this larger Snowdon Dome, you could create a large expanse of glazing in one area of the building. This configuration offers an impressive connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Snowdon Domes use Polycarbonate glazing that is 200 times stronger than glass. The Polycarbonate has a UV coating to protect it from harmful sun rays.
Customise the interior
The timber frame of the geodesic structure is visible internally. As we can see, this creates a space with a unique character.
Snowdon Domes can easily personalise the dome's interior for you as they construct their pods from scratch in their workshops. They can add mezzanine floors, shower rooms and kitchen areas.
Snowdon Domes can also create different-sized pods and join pods together if you want to create a multi-room space.
Installed throughout the UK
Snowdon Domes install their garden rooms and glamping pods throughout the UK. Their in-house team handle the build for you. This process includes installing the solid platform that the dome is built off.
Depending on the size of your dome and any customisations you have chosen for the interior, on-site build times can vary from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
All Snowdon Domes come with a 10-year structural warranty. The geodesic form helps the building stand up to strong winds etc. Should a structural repair be necessary, it is a relatively straightforward process as the damaged section can be unscrewed and replaced with a new section - you don't get that with conventional-shaped garden room designs!
