Miniature Manors recently completed this garden room built into a hill. As bespoke garden room designers, the Miniature Manors team were able to tailor their design to make use of the space available. A standard garden room design wouldn’t work in a situation like this.
The owners wanted to maintain the space in the garden that their sons used for sport, so approached Miniature Manors about the possibility of building on the side of the hill at the end of the garden. The Miniature Manors team were not daunted by the task, and in fact have considerable experience designing and building garden rooms on awkward plots.
At 4.8 meters by 4.2 meters, they have really been able to maximise the space available creating a spacious building. The owner is a child psychiatrist so wanted to create a professional space so she could work from home. Because of the nature of her work, and the different backgrounds of her patients it was decided that a simple garden room design was called for.
The garden room is built onto suspended timber floor which extends in front of the garden room, creating a decked entrance area which will double up as a seating area in the summer months.
The building is fully insulated so will be a comfortable workspace all year round. The exterior has been finished in featheredge cladding which gives the exterior a textured feel. The roof has been finished in the durable EPDM rubber roof covering. Water runoff from the roof is directed into a guttering system and water butt.
A set of oak bi-fold doors have been used on the front elevation, it’s nice to see wooden doors being used as opposed to UPVC or Aluminum as they create quite a different look. The owner will be able to open just one door or fold back all three to create a nice inside outside feel. Additional light will enter the building through the UPVC skylight, a clever design choice for a build like this.
Internally the room has a fully plastered and decorated finish, making it like a room in a new house. The building is fully wired electrically with 4 double sockets and internal and external spotlights. Miniature Manors also organised the connection of the electrics to the mains supply in the house – not all garden room suppliers include this element in their price.
This garden room cost £16,000 which is very reasonable considering the site issues. A similar size garden room would start at £10,000.
