This garden recording studio by Garden Spaces may only be 3.45m x 2.4m, but WOW, it packs a lot of punch into its 8.28sqm! It features one of the best music room acoustic specifications we have featured.
Garden Spaces have developed a range of soundproofing specifications, so you can pick which one is right for your music room needs. In this case, Garden Spaces customer opted for Garden Spaces Platinum Acoustic Package. This package archives soundproofing values of 56dB RW.
As you can see from this diagram, the Platinum Package incorporates several layers of material to achieve the overall build-up. You will also note that it is not only the wall structure that features soundproofing but also the floor and roof structures too.
Additional soundproofing steps
In addition to adding these acoustic layers into the core structure of the recording studio, Garden Spaces also suggest fitting surface mounted sockets and switches and lighting, rather than recessing them into the structure, as this reduces noise transmission.
The recording studio has been fitted with an ultra-quiet climate control system - details all add up to the success of the building.
Garden Spaces also suggest minimising glass in the building. This is because glazing leaks sound. Opening windows are particularly leaky. In this case, glazed French doors allow both access into the studio and let in natural light. Garden Spaces suggest adding heavy serge curtains at any opening to minimise sound leakage.
At the rear of the building, an access door leads onto a no-through pathway. This is a specialist acoustic door which also features an excellent multi-point locking system.
The roof structure of the recording studio has been finished with a Sedum roof covering. A living roof like this adds another layer of acoustic insulation but also helps the garden room blend in with its surroundings - looking particularly good when viewing from an upstairs window.
The customer went on to add...
The Garden Spaces team pulled out all the stops to get the Cedar clad recording studio completed before the country went into lockdown. Their customer has used the lockdown period to start kitting out their new room.
They have added grey absorption acoustic panels to the walls and plan to add them to the ceiling too. They have also made heavy curtains for the doors using heavy wool serge with a velvet lining. This will help reduce any sound leakage through the doors.
