If you have limited space in your garden, you'll want to maximise every inch of it when building a garden office. As you research your options, you will realise that many garden room companies insist on 400 - 500mm being left all around the building so they can install the room. With this gap, you can end up with 'dead' space around your building.
There are, however, other companies like Hargreaves Garden Spaces who have designed their garden rooms so they can be built in tight spaces, removing the requirement for space to be left all around the building. This avoids having the 'dead' space around the garden room and maximises the space you have inside it.
This recent project by Hargreaves Garden Spaces showcases how they can maximise space for their clients. Their customer's London garden is just over 3 meters wide, and they wanted to create a home office and storage room.
Having designed several similar projects, the Hargreaves Garden Spaces team had the systems in place for installing close to a fence. They designed a 3m wide by 3.5m deep garden room that fully maximises the space at the end of the garden.
Garden room divided to create an office space & storage space
Hargreaves Garden Spaces added partition walls to divide the room up to create the office and storage areas. Both rooms have their own external access.
The office is entered via outward opening double doors in an Anthracite Grey finish outside and white inside. The storage room is accessed via a 'secret door' which has been carefully matched into the wall cladding, so it is not immediately visible that it is there.
Hargreaves Garden Spaces custom made the door into the storage room so that it is 800mm wide. With this width door, the owners should be able to manoeuvre things in and out of the storeroom with ease.
Different finishes in each room
Each of the rooms has a finish tailored to its intended use. The office has a high-spec plastered finish mixed with a durable laminate floor. These photos show the office as the plaster drys; it was then decorated. The storage room has durable OSB finishes.
All the electrics, including an internet link
Hargreaves Garden Spaces work with you to create the electrical package that works for your requirements. In this case, the office features LED lights and chrome power sockets. The storage room has practical stip lighting. Externally there are LED downlights in the roof canopy, which will add a nice curtain of light down the front of the office when viewed from the main house.
An internet connection was required in the office. With the building being 30 meters from the house, a TP-Link was installed. This is where one adapter is plugged in in the house and another in the office, the internet connection is transferred over the electrical system.
