Maximising space is essential when creating a garden office in a compact garden. Many garden room providers often require a 400–500mm clearance around the building for installation, resulting in unused ‘dead’ space. A Tailored Garden Office for a Small London Garden
Hargreaves Garden Spaces completed this project in a narrow London garden, measuring just over 3 metres wide. The client wanted a multifunctional space to serve as both a home office and a storage room.
Drawing on their extensive experience, the Hargreaves team designed a 3m x 3.5m garden room installed flush to the fence line. This approach optimised the available space, creating a highly functional structure.
Divided Footprint: Office and Storage Solutions
The garden room was partitioned with internal walls to create distinct office and storage areas, each with its own entrance.
- Office Access: The office is entered through outward-opening double doors finished in Anthracite Grey externally and white internally.
- Storage Room Access: The storage room features a concealed ‘secret door’ integrated into the external cladding for a sleek, unobtrusive appearance. The custom-made door is 800mm wide, ensuring easy access for larger items.
Custom Finishes for Each Room
Hargreaves Garden Spaces tailored the interior finishes of both rooms to their specific uses:
- Office: A premium plastered finish paired with a durable laminate floor. (The plaster was decorated after drying, as shown in the photos.)
- Storage Room: Robust OSB (Oriented Strand Board) walls, offering durability for practical storage needs.
Electrical Features and Internet Connectivity
The electrical setup was customised to meet the client’s requirements:
- Office Lighting & Power: LED lights and chrome power sockets provide a modern, professional finish.
- Storage Room Lighting: Simple yet effective strip lighting.
- External Lighting: LED downlights under the roof canopy illuminate the garden office, enhancing its visibility from the main house.
For reliable internet access 30 metres from the house, a TP-Link adapter system was installed, delivering the connection via the electrical wiring.
